Wow, what a story. It's a bummer they didn't plan it better.... it would probably be in near perfect condition today if they left it in a warehouse somewhere... but I guess that would defeat the purpose of it being a time capsle. Thanks for the link.

I saw when they pulled the cover off of that car.. all I could think was, even XMT 4 couldn't help that car!
Like you said, it was a shame, what a waste.

I saw that on the news last night also. If you wanted to preserve and old car I don't think digging a whole in the ground and putting it in is your best option even with the car being covered up.

They should have vacuum sealed it 50 years ago.. May have lasted better.

It's totally rust covered, but from the pictures I've seen it still looks solid. Hard to say though, since I did read something about braces of the trunk lid being so rusted they fell off. I'm amazed the tires would still hold some air. They really should have just locked it up on a storage building or something.

Read about this in a newspaer here too, they said that that type of car had rust issues after some years on the road back i the 60s too.

But i would love too be there when they uncoverd it.

They also did this in Europe in the 40s with motorcycles and cars, but for other reasons.

Yeah, it's a shame she didn't hold up better. Wish they could have locked out the moisture somehow. Oh well. Just think, in 50 years, Wytstang's 50 cans of Meg's 16 will look perfect.....they'll be no rust on those cans!! ;)

They might as well have left it parked on the beach. A 50 year old POS......wonder what that cost overall?
