Are there any youtube videos of why not to take your car to those $5 machine/hand car washes?

I know why not to take them, but I am looking to explain to a Non Detailer (who doesn't understand why)

So I can further explain to them of why it's a bad idea.

Thanks for the help everybody

You are in for a shock. I take my car to a local touchless unit in the winter. I got lazy last winter and for three months straight I used it.

My paint this spring..? Just as I left it last fall and I'm talking winter salt country. How is this possible ?

If you have a coating or a good sealant that will not degrade under chemical attack, there is no reason in my opinion not to use a touchless car wash.

Coatings have to be abraded off and let me tell you if you have a good coating like CQ, car wash soaps cannot degrade it. I know. I love coatings particularly CQUK edition.

Now if you are a wax addict... As my friend Vinny would say... Forget about it.

A touchless auto wash is fine, but it will degrade your wax or sealant faster.
As for the auto washes with the brushes, everyone on this site should know not to use those swirlomatics already.

I'd rather someone took their car to a touchless during winter months for those with salt on the roads rather than leave it on there. Just explain to them that the water can be harsh and degrade protectants and will not get in every crack and crease as well as a safe hand wash.

This explains the touch less part, but I was hoping for a machine/hand wash

^ So they are doing even worse than a waterless, I had a customer tell me that he takes his car where the brushes are MF though. Lol

I wanted to show a video on my FB page of the 5 minute express washes. Where the car gets run through a a machine with soap and brushes.

And at the very end it the car gets taken out dripping wet and 2-3 guys come out and dry it. Apply the tire dressing (probably Armor All) and then clean the windows with Windex lol

Like these:

^ I was looking for a video that explains why these are not recommended. For someone that loves there car, but still doesn't seem to understand why they are not recommended.

I am just leaning towards turning the cheek and maybe stop with my preaching to these car people :D

So far thanks everybody

While I do agree with his videos, I also concede that (especially living in Maryland in the winter) that touchless washes are better than nothing at all to remove the bulk of debris/brine/et al that accumulates.

I know this is not perfect and that I will be doing a full detail in the Spring. However, I would be doing one regardless.

I think my creativity is pretty exceptional on AGO. Considering the fact that I do all my AGO on my phone (including pictures and video) :D

I hear my FB friends saying something along the lines of "it has been 3.5 week since my car has been washed. So I took my baby for it's much needed wash. It only cost me a whopping $5 but it was worth it because my car/baby needed it."

My local car wash is called The Alamo :)

(only difference is, that there is no appointment necessary)

"5 Minute Express Wash" is what the sign says

Will take a picture next time
