Steve it's a 5" backing plate.

Using that backing plate with the 21 right now. Great combo!

Wondering if I should buy this thing. Can you use it to apply wax & glaze, or is the large stroke no good for that?

Just did an application of Blacklight with a BnS finishing pad sure made it easy. I have found no issues. Today was my first chance to the the 5" BP on the 21 and I was amazed at how well it worked I was worried about the throw but works just as well with the smaller BP as it does the Large one!

21 with 5" BP or nothing, IMO.

The backing plate for the Rupes 15 is actually 4 7/8". The perfect backing plate in my opinion is to have the 6" backing plate that comes with the Rupes 21 trimmed down to 5 3/8".

A 5 3/8" BP makes it more effective on 5.5" MF pads and still allows you use a 5.5" foam pad. On top of that, it's virtually a perfect fit for 6.5" LC Hybrid pad as well.

I got the 5 3/8" size from Kevin Brown. He calls it the Exact Fit BP. I love that I can use almost all 5.5" and 6.5" pads with this size BP.

I use the 5" bp (that comes on the LHR15) on my LHR21ES and rarely use the 6" bp. Any 5.5" foam or MF pads will work with the smaller rupes backing plate.

Or maybe I'll buy a Flex 3401. I have an itch to buy something. The thing about the Flex is you can use 4" pads. I'm using a GG6 now.

Basically, my goal is to work faster.

That is true, the Flex with Flex 4 3/8" BP will handle 5.5" pads, and with the LC system can handle 4" pads and the amazing LC Hybrid 5" pads.

That "buying itch" is a #itch. Decisions....decisions.....

Zach, give it try and put that 6" BP to use. Get it trimmed down to 5 3/8". Mount that bad boy onto a Meguiar's 5.5" MF and you'll never go back to the smaller BP.

The first step to recovery, is admitting you have a problem. If your trying to stop from buying more detailing supplies, trying switching back to buying cars. :props:

If you want to work faster, buy a PE14. I prefer using it over my FLEX, and think it provides a MUCH nicer finish. Plus, the versatility is awesome!
