My wife just purchased a new black BMW 335iX and I was wanting to know if it is necessary to do all of the following steps or if any could be skipped?
1. Wash
2. Clay Bar
3. Polish
4. Sealant
5. Wax
Thank you ahead of time for your responses

Looks good, might want to add IronX or simlar product.
If no swirls I would go with a paint cleaner polish.

It may not be necessary to clay. You can do the Baggie test to see if you need to. Also pull the car out in the sunlight and see If you see any swirls. If there is no need to polish I wouldn't. If you see swirls you may need to polish. Wash and sealant for sure. Most likely though if the dealership touched it at all you will need to do some sort of correction to the paint.

Here you go I posted this on another thread and it will certainly help you as well

Welcome to AGO!

You can find lots of good reading right here in this article:

One thing you will want to do is check the condition of your vehicle paint:
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/off-topic/38689-what-condition-paint-your-vehicles.html

You also want to do the baggie test to check for an above surface contamination since that car has sat on a lot for some time:

Once you have done the clay (if needed) you can move on to polishing out the paint via hand of Machine (if you choose)

If going with permanent coating like Opti-Coat then you will want to get your paint close to perfection as possible as any imperfect left will remain and sealed underneath the coating.

I for one will agree with everyone else coat you car and enjoy the benefits you will receive.

Looks about right for a new car and pretty much the steps I did on mine when it was new. I too would recommend an iron treatment. I would polish whether you have swirls or not just to get a good clean surface for the sealant (and you'll take out any minor swirls that may not be easy to see). That's just my 2 cents.

My car came from the dealership covered in swirls. First day home I was outside with a da polisher. They treat cars like trash at the dealerships

Definitely black probably could use a light polish.

Probably a good time for a coating like OptiCoat too.

I needed to clay my brand new Focus ST. Youd be surprised what it pulls out from the factory.

It it was me I would put a coating on there, not a sealant. The paint is brand new, remove all the defects and you have a showcar paint. Best time to seal it permanently with a coating.
