This customer was a referral from the 300 SRT (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/65886-2013-300-srt8-charity-detail.html) I did a few months back for an upcoming charity car show. This car, a 2014 Challenger, got treated to some MOPAR performance parts and a different hood. The hood was baked and they guaranteed that I would be able to coat it. The car show is next weekend and now unfortunately, I'm going to miss it.
Anyway, here's another case where I thought it would be an easy one step. I was actually looking forward to that. That was not to be however. Oh, well, here we go:

He was not happy with the condition of the wheels. This was not only going to be a wheels-off job, but I was going to try to polish them to see if I could improve them as well.

You know, silly little things enter your mind as you're starting a job. I remember looking at this cool chrome gas cap and looking forward to polishing it and taking the after shot.

As you can see with the Borla tips, it's had some exhaust work to it too:

It's a gorgeous metallic in this colour:

The front seats were going to get coated as well.
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1439.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1439.jpg.html)

First up was cleaning the wheels/tires/wells.
The barrels got cleaned first with Tarminator followed by Megs WB which was followed by Zep Citrus.
The faces got Megs WB followed by Zep Citrus spray and then hand washed with DG 901.
The wells were cleaned with LATA.
The tires were cleaned with Zep 505.
Next up was to foam the car. I had a sample of this extreme foam. I mixed about 1/2 my sample in with the DG 901 that was already in there expecting some extreme foam action. Not so much.
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1442.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1442.jpg.html)
It was fine, just not any more spectacular than my normal mix does.
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1443.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1443.jpg.html)
After foaming, the car was hand washed with DG 901. That was rinsed off and then it was cleaned one last time with IronX paste and a grout sponge. The car was brought inside and the wheels, barrels and wells were blown dry with my Master Blaster.
Next up was to clay with my CarPro Elastofoam block.
Now came wheel removal time! Woo Hoo.
The barrels were cleaned with ONR for the spots you couldn't reach. Then they were treated with DG Squeaky Clean to ensure a proper bond. Here is the barrel starting off:
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1445.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1445.jpg.html)
After the Squeaky Clean, it was then coated with OG. This is a big car and I knew I would not have enough CQF to coat both the barrels and the faces, so the barrels got OG.
The face was then polished with my Megs DA and a 4" pad with PF. It was hard to capture the improvement with the camera. It was not a huge improvement, but definitely worthwhile. The customer was very happy with the improvement in them. The faces were pre treated with DG Squeaky Clean and then double coated with CQF.
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1449.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1449.jpg.html)
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1450.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1450.jpg.html)
Also while I had the wheel off, I cleaned the wells with ONR and dried them and then applied the DG beta trim coating to them. Here's how it looked:
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1447.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1447.jpg.html)

That process was repeated for each wheel and then they were torqued to spec with my torque wrench.
Now it was time to play with some paint. I wanted something that would bite into the paint a bit to try to amplify the flake. I knew following that with DG Squeaky Clean would also help the flake. I tried a Megs mf pad with PF and it looked OK. Then I tried PF with an orange B/S pad and I thought it looked a little better. There were some light scratches to be removed, but nothing terrible:
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1451.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1451.jpg.html)
As I was doing the hood with this combo, I could see in the reflection of my amazing CFL's that the outer section of the hood seemed a bit cloudy. The combo was not affecting it. (Remember, the hood got painted). So, I broke out my Flex and my black TB wool pad + M105 and used my gentle technique with it. The clarity popped! I went back and redid the rest of the hood and really improved upon what I had already done. That stage was followed by Flex + white B/S + 205 and finally Flex + red B/S + DG SC. I thought I could go back to the one step but as soon as I put the wool to the rest of the factory paint, it brought a clarity to it that was undeniable. In fact, the customer had come by to check on it and I had done 1/2 the door. He couldn't believe it. As he sat there, he could not read his Tshirt in the reflection of the factory paint, but could clearly read it in the part I had done. He wants it to look amazing for the car show so the whole car was treated to that process.
One section needed a bit of extra work. The LR 1/4 panel had dirt in the paint in 2 spots. That got wet sanded with 2K, 2500, and 3K. The 3K was with a sanding disc on my GG 3" DA. I love the machine for that application and is pretty much all I use it for now. Here is the paint all sanded prior to polishing:

Lastly, the chrome tips got hand polished with M205 as did the gas cap.
It was a sunny day when I finished polishing and we've had so much rain that I decided to pull it out to snap some sun shots in case I couldn't get them the following day. (Glad I did).
So, these shots are just polished paint with no coating whatsoever:

Back inside to get coated. The glass was coated with Fly-by-30. Some people have been complaining about the durability of it, so I texted Corey to ask him whether you could layer it and if so, did it need to be done immediately. In typical Car-Pro US customer service fashion, I had my answer in about 15 seconds: Yes and yes. So, I put a double coat of Fly-by-30 on the windshield. The paint, chrome head lights and tail lights and remaining glass were all double coated with CQF (brand new version) and subsequently baked with the IR light. Here is the IR light hard at work:
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1460.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_1460.jpg.html)
The trim was done with DG beta trim coating.
The interior was vacuumed and then the seats were coated with Optimum leather coating. The mats were treated to 303 Fabric Guard and allowed to dry overnight.
Anyway, here's another case where I thought it would be an easy one step. I was actually looking forward to that. That was not to be however. Oh, well, here we go:
