View Full Version : Some questions for the DG experts

Thanks to AGO, I've been getting more familiar with the Dura Gloss line. The 501/601 mix is an outstanding paint cleaner combo. I recently did my daughter's new-to-her Honda Fit and it really brightened the orange color and, from the looks of my pad, removed a lot of garbage from the paint, despite a fresh dealer detail prior to the sale.
My normal DD procedure is to follow it up with something like Collinite 845 or 476. On this one, scheduling just hasn't worked, so it's been 2 months with just DG501. One thing that's really caught my attention is that it never seems to look dirty. Sometimes I need to take a real close look to make sure she hasn't washed it. Is this a characteristic of DG waxes?
The beading is anything but pretty, but the surface is still smooth and relatively slick. When I first tried my DG stuff, I followed 501/601 with some 105. It just didn't look and bead to my expectations, so I traded it away. Whadaya think, should I give 105 another try? 101, 104 or 111 maybe? As the one who washes three of the four family cars, anything to stretch the intervals between washings is OK by me, as it gives me more garage time to fuss with my own rides.

Opinions or experiences welcome!

Bill

You don't know what clean paint is until you've applied 501. It's a great product.

105 is another great product. Beading is no indicator of level of protection in my opinion. I put on 105 in the fall and it gives me easily 6 months protection and that includes 3 months worth of touchless car washes during the dead of winter. Come spring the paint is still protected and looking great.

It's the best bang for buck protection I've seen for about $10.

Bill you can't go wrong with giving 105 a try again.

501/601 then105/601 then Coli 845 will bring you months and I mean many months of protection.

And on that note if want I'll send you some 105 to try again.

That has been and still is (501/601, 105/601, 845 a coat of each) my go to winter prep.

105 is great bang for the buck. Should last a long time if paint has proper prep before application. For a little cut with protection give some #671 a try.

Bill, I got lazy this last time (and I had some issues with Collinite 845 "oiling" on my hood after a drive in the hot summer sun) so for the last details I did in July, I did 501/601, followed by 105/601 each at the 4:1 ratio. I agree 100% with your conclusion above, the car stays cleaner longer with just the DG products than when topped with Collinite. I also agree, the paint while looking good just doesn't have quite the same pop as when I top with any of the Collinites. Even when using AquaWax and Fast Clean & Shine, something is just missing.

I guess I just prefer something with some carnauba in it, even if 476, and 845 are hybrids, they still have a good bit of carnauba.

Definitely give them a try again. My paint stays so clean with DG on it. Top with aquawax once a month and you can't touch that combo for the price. I recently tried 111 and it's a great sealant! Been using 501/105 for a while now.

Thanks, Guys! Those are the kind of opinions I was looking for. Does anyone see a difference in performance between 105 vs 111?

Im curious, is it really necessary to use 601 with the 501 since it's mainly a cleaner and most are going to be topping with 105 or similar?
I plan on adding some duragloss products to my order tomorrow (501,601,105) but didn't think most were mixing the 601 with 501

Yes there is a difference. 111 is a pure sealant, no cleaners. 105 has mild cleaners. Both are very durable but most people choose 105 because it is a little cheaper and has light cleaners which is a plus.

601 is good to mix with 501 because it also contains cleaners which assists in 501, but the main reason it is used so the 501 flash cures and you can top it with whatever you want as soon as you wipe off the haze.
