View Full Version : Dewalt Sander as a polisher?

I know it is not advised as the sander spins way too fast, but I was wondering if a pad is described as

"Hook and loop fasteners cover the entire back of each pad to provide a secure hold on the backing plate. "

Will it stick to the plate on the dewalt sander that acts almost like Velcro for the sand paper pads?

If you don't get the answer, then use the search feature on the forum. I saw a thread within the last year on this topic.

Edit:OPM's seem rather high for paint correction.

•3.0 Amp motor operates at 12,000 opm, providing maximum sanding speed for smooth finishes

Looking at the image, it would seem that the pad would come into contact with the body of the unit as pressure is applied.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Its for the boat ... I found 6" pads which have hook and loop backing so i just wanted to know if they would attach to the dewalt... I usually just use a 7" bonmett but if these pads stick to them that would make my life easier

I don't see why not. Most bp's are 'male' hook & loop. Most pads are 'female' felt-like material.

Good luck
Happy detailing...:buffing:

It will not work. It will just buzz in one spot and not rotate properly.

Well I know for a fact it actually works for what I am trying to do. But I use the bonnets and they don't fit properly. I picked up 2 cheapo pads from a place I wont mention and will post my results.

The process for the hull will be
- On / Off acid scrub
- Wash
- Compound
- Oxidation removal
- Wax

Let the fun begin!
