Cleaning leather question

Am I taking the leather color off the seat. I'm use megs APC 5:119690

No more than likely you are removing all the oil dirt and grime that have been on them for however long. 5:1 seems a bit strong ensure you follow up with a leather conditioner.

I thought too but of you look at the other picture the leather is not black it's a dark grey color.

I thought the leather dye was more powerful then some APC

APC mixed 5:1 is strong

For cleaning leather, I use Megs APC diluted 1:10. Have never needed it stronger.

Looks like you're removing the color? Have they been re-dyed?

I use Optimum Power Clean. Works great on leather 3:1 and I never had problems. The leather looks like it was Chrome tanned. You can tell by the texture on the surface. I cannot tell if it is laminated leather. Laminated leather will look shiny When it gets old the lamination will crack. I do know companies have been using different laminations now. It used to be just gloss.

1z Deep plastic cleaner is the only cleaner I will use on treated leather. I haven't found anything better yet.

I use the Megs d103 APC+ on my Mercury leather and wife's Hyundai leather, have yet to see color transfer. I go 1:10 as well. Spray, massage, light mist to re-wet, fingernail brush to agitate, the wipe with clean mf. So far so good in our cars.
Try an area of the back seat, at the bottom face of the bench with a weaker dilution and see what kind of results you get there. And make sure what you're doing is safe for your type of leather/coating. Many of the coating (not necessarily the color) can be removed with a strong apc.

I use the WG Leather Cleaner and WG Leather Conditioner. My process is I spray cleaner directly to the leather and agitate it with a soft brush to deep clean the leather with the lather it makes with agitation and wipe clean. Might take some time but I have had GREAT results. Used it on my Bees leather (very little leather areas) and on our Lexus RX330 (A LOT of leather). Both have come up with great results, then apply conditioner.

But from your pics, looks like you stripped the color off, maybe you scrubbed too hard or used too strong of a solution? I want to say you cleaned the dirt layer off but from the 50/50s I've had and seen it does not look like that, so most likely color strip.

Yes, and its quite possibly the most under-rated leather conditioner used in automotive:

Bick 4

If its trusted enough to use on $3-10,000 Christian Louboutin supple leather shoes, Gucci, Chanel, Hermes, & Louis Vitton leather handbags... then its surely good enough to use on bentley, ferrari, mercedes or lower grades of leather.... in fact, over time it helps to make the leather more supple :D

Word I use bick 4 on my boots. But gm leather is coated, so there's really no reason to use a legit conditioner on it

true.. but i tend to use it anyway.... that way i always have it on hand for whatever im doing.... i loathe having to have 3-4 products for the same thing.... although its often necessary, its a lot of space
