Hi all,

I just started cleaning my own car and have made some newbie mistakes.

I washed and dried my car and I have hard water and it left Type 1 water marks (based on what I saw here).

Now is it because my water is hard or I dried incorrectly that caused the marks?

Will they damage my car if they are not removed?

I spray waxed over them and they went away (is this a bad idea)?

Actual paste wax did not remove them, any idea why?

I know wax is supposed to be a sealant but the spray wax worked.

Is it true that I can technically seal over the marks by waxing?

Thanks guys!

Not a bad idea to spray wax on them , a Quick Detailer would work as well I m pretty sure .

I would say the spray wax covered them up my guess is that they are still there just hidden.
Really bad water spots will etch your clear coat even then you can remove them by polishing them out.
Hard water is a pain to deal with I have it. If you want and are willing to afford it you can use Garry Dean's Detail Juice as a water softener in your wash bucket.
Make sure your using a ultra slick shampoo.
When you rinse take the nozzle off of your hose and sheet the water to rinse it. Sheeting the water will not allow droplets to form causing a water spot. That is the solution I use. It also makes it easier to dry. I can dry my car in 5 minutes when I sheet the final rinse. Just becareful not to hit the car with the tip of the hose.
Dry your car as fast as possible.
