Today I had a chance to Dodo's Red Mist Tropical Protection Detailer (RMTPD).

I am a big fan of QD and spray wax/sealant type products. Mainly because they are fun to use, and give your paint an little "boost" quickly and easily. Combined, I probably have about 25 QDs & spray wax/sealant products. I have been interested in RMTPD for a while, but haven't picked it up until recently. Why? Well, mainly because its 17 bucks for a lousy 250 mls. Most QDs / spray sealants cost about half this price. So, since this stuff costs 2x as much as similar products, I was hoping it wasn't the same old product at twice the price.
This stuff really surprised me. It is a lot different. To begin with, you need to use such a tiny amount, this stuff is super concentrated. You only need to pull the trigger 1/8 to 1/10 of a pump to release enough product to do a panel.

That was enough to do my whole trunk and some of the rear quarter panels. Let me try to describe this product. It sprays and starts to spread like oil: thick and glossy. Then it quickly spreads and thins out evenly and begins to flash. It's unlike any other QD I can remember trying. Incidentally, it definitely feels more like a "spray gloss sealant" than a quick detailer.
The "polymers" (or whatever you wanna call it) seem different in RMTPD. Its not really like a regular "quick detailer", it's a lot more substantial. Dodo calls it a "protection detailer", which is sort of another name for a spray sealant. I think they should have called it a "gloss enhancing spray sealant" - because that's what it seems like to me. For anyone that has used WG Deep Gloss Liquid Seal (or BF Crystal Seal), RMTPD feels like it uses similar "polymers"/ingredients as those products. It spreads sort of like a WOWA sealant as well.
First it starts coating the paint in wet liquid, and the whole panel looks wet. Then it starts to flash and disappear, a bit slower than a regular QD - similar to a WOWA. However, it's a little more "quick detailer like" than those WOWA sealants and not finicky at all. The whole time, whatever your spreading it with remains super slick on the surface, you don't get any "drag" like you get when other QDs / spray sealants start to flash.
If I recall, Dodo has added this "Tropical" version of the product to slow down the haze / dry time, as the original product is available in the UK in it's original or "non-Tropical" form. The "Tropical" form is the type we get in the USA, and it's supposed to flash a little slower to work better in hotter climates. Well, today it was about 90 degrees in my garage, and it worked awesome. Whatever they did to it, they go it right. It doesn't haze, streak, or "ghost" on the panel - keep in mind the car is black. It almost seems like a QD / WOWA hybrid. It's effortless to use. There is no "learning curve".
Dodo states this product can be used as a lone LSP. After using it, this I believe. A lot of QDs are great at cleaning a panel and leaving a nice shine, but this is one of the few QD where you can actually see it improve the look of the paint and boost the gloss. Your towel just seems like it's spreading gloss, shine, and slickness.
All and all, I found this product pretty amazing. This isn't the QD you use to clean up some dirt/dust or bird droppings. This is the QD you use for the final wipe. Once everything is done and the car is perfect, this is what you spray on it to make it really pop. It only takes one towel to do a whole car with this product, and when your done that towel is dry. I haven't seen how this product reacts with water yet, but it is known for adding pretty good beading to whatever you use it on. In fact, it can be used to bring the beading back if you use Dodo's: Time To Dry, drying aid QD. That product helps water sheet off your paint to make drying the car after a wash easier. So, Time to Dry leaves a sheeting affect on the surface. This product removes that sheeting and brings the beading back.

Overall I would give this product a 10 out of 10. It costs a little more than some other products, but I can see this leaving a couple other QDs I have obsolete. If your looking for a QD/spray sealant that's easy to use and adds a ton of gloss - I suggest getting a bottle of Dodo's RMTPD.
