Hi Folks,

I'd be grateful for some input from anyone who has used 3M Specialty Adhesive Remover, p/n 38984:

I'm running into trouble sourcing my old stand-by, p/n 08984:

FWIW, the reason I ask... I have some debadging efforts coming up, and the General Purpose stuff has been my go-to. Potent, but safe. And I'm nearly out of it. Wah. :) The Specialty stuff appears to be designed for epoxies and other really serious adhesives that require curing time, and while I suspect it's safe for auto finishes, I can't find any specific confirmation.

Thoughts? Thanks again....

I get my 3m general purpose adhesive cleaner from O'reilly Auto Parts. But in a pinch, they also sell an aerosol consumer version at Walmart in the automotive section. It’s a black can and as far as I can tell it’s the same stuff. If time permits, Autogeek sells an aerosol version as well. Also if you are removing badges attached by double sided foam tape I strongly suggest the 3m stripe removal wheel. It makes the task a breeze and then you are only left with a tiny bit of glue to remove. I haven’t used the other stuff unfortunately so I can’t offer much help there. Hopefully this was somewhat helpful lol.

3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, bug and tar remover, adhesive remover, decal remover, tree sap remover (http://www.autogeek.net/3m-adhesive-cleaner.html)

3M Stripe Off Wheel 07498, pinstripe tape removal (http://www.autogeek.net/3m-stripe-off-wheel-07498.html)

Have you tried plain old Alaphatic Naptha (aka zippo fluid). you can use this on paint, glass and plastic with out fear. It melts the glue and take stickers right off. (I have not looked up the active ingrediants in any of your stuff but Ill bet its mostly Naptha or Xylene.
Naptha is cheep. try a bit of zippo fluid befor buying a big can. Only diff is zippo adds a scent to it.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I was able to source my go-to. I'm guessing I'll be set for another seven years or so. :)

I'm pretty sure the 3m adhesive remover will take off any waxes/sealants too.
