Is that on textured trim?

If so try some all purpose cleaner and a scrub brush.

That's the mark the convertible leaves when I have the top down

Use a very soft nylon brush and some APC.

After the APC, is a conditioner required after? (So it doesn't get all stiff?)

I had the same stain when I had mine a few years ago. I can't remember if its plastic or if it was the rubber vinyl feel material. I used the griots interior cleaner and a soft bristle brush to clean it. Remember to clean the bottom of the part of the convertible that touches it as well to stop it from occuring again.

Any updates?

Kinda figured this was an abrasion issue?

An abrasion issue is sort of what I was thinking since someone said this happened when they put their convertible top down.

It's still there not as bad

I used apc and a microfiber towel

Next I will try apc with brush

Then a steamer (when I get one)

Might be able to purchase/trade Solution Finish to try out.

Solution Finish Black Plastic & Vinyl Restorer (http://www.autogeek.net/best-plastic-restorer.html)

Don't I need to clean it before I restore it?

You should clean it even if you're just adding a trim sealant.
What do you have on there now?
