View Full Version : Claying soft black paint and only using paint cleaner afterwards - remove any marring?

I was going to hit my Black Subaru WRX that was corrected a few months ago, with some Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer and then a coat of WGDGPS 3.0.

I do have some Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay (Ultra mild) and Pinnacle lube and was wondering if I should clay beforehand (It was last clayed in Jan or Feb and is a garage kept car)? The problem is, is that I am not polishing afterwards so there might be some marring from the clay.

I would be using Wolfgang PPE on a LC white polishing (Light cut) or gray finishing pad (Firm but no cut), so I was thinking because the paint is so soft just the cut of the white pad might clear up the clay induced marring even though the PPE has no abrasives?

Has anyone seen something like this work before? I might just skip the clay for now but I just though I'd ask if it was an option.

Thanks,
Drew

Hi Drew...

...

Your vehicle just may not need to be clayed this time around.
Have you performed: "The Baggie Test" yet?

IMO...
If you do clay and it leaves some minor marring...
I'd "Test Spot" the PPE by hand first (you said this is soft paint)
to see the marring-removal results...

Then, compare it with another "Test Spot" with your
listed-choice of pads/polisher combo.
