I want to buy an EZ UP type canopy this weekend. This is just for personal detailing. There are some on sale until Saturday 10x10. What size is large enough for an average compact car? My mustang which is my main concern is 15' long and approx 6' wide.

Thanks, Spiney-Dave

Well u need to consider in the size what time of day you'll be detailing. If at noon then one just big enough to cover the car is fine. If your not going to be doing it then u need to think about the angle the sun will be at and how much larger it will need to be to make up for that

You can also shift the canopy as you work the car.

I can get a 10 x 10 on sale for $49 just seems small. Says it provides 64sq' of shade. A 12x12 jumps up to $100. Seems much more robust. Then Pep Boys has a non ez up 10x15 on sale for $89. Not as ez to setup but much more shade. I was just wondering what mobile pros use? Thanks, Dave

A 10x10 works but you have to move it a lot. Keep in mind that I have a lot of trouble setting up my 10x10 by myself, so I don't know whether the 12x12 is the same or worse. As someone else was saying, even with the 10x15 you're going to have sun come under it if it's low in the sky, of course that's not the worst time for getting the paint hot.

From an earlier post by Spiney...Hope he doesn't mind:

This week only ####'s Sporting Goods has a 10x10 ezup 1/2 off for $49.
Yes I wish it was bigger but for $49 I'll move my car around until I do the whole thing.
12x12and bigger seem to start @ $150 or more.
Just a FYI. Not a curse word. The name of the store is the shortened version of Richard's. Lol

fyi

10x15=150sq ft
12x12=144sq ft

So there's not "...much more shade" difference

The ones for sale at ####'s require a coupon from the Sunday paper. Otherwise they are $69.

a 12 x 12 is really hard for me to set up by myself. so much chance to scratch a car also..

Thinking 2 10x10 should work. I just hate to use the space for two ez-ups.

They really don't take up much space when folded up. Though I think I missed the sale on the $49 10x10's.

I don't need it for on site detailing, it's for me, my car, in my yard or driveway. So I can go with a bigger one and have help setting it up. I have my eye on a 13x13 gazebo style, made by EZ UP. At Sam's for $129.00. It has much more coverage than the 10x10. FWIW an EZ UP commercial grade 10x10 @ SAM's is $199. I did look at 10x20 car port types but that would have to stay up, because it's not an EZ setup. I don't want something long term killing the grass.

Good news is my wife told me "Honey don't be cheap, you have hundreds of dollars worth of detailing products, buy a good canopy.". She's a keeper! I was looking at cheap ones to not rock the boat. Glad she feels different. So e of the cheap ones had the fabric torn already on the display models in the store. Also the gauge of metal used is much better on the EZ UP brand than the knock offs.

You can't exactly go by that. It depends on the sale of the roof and length of the sides. There are cheap 10x10's with only 64 sq' coverage and other 10x10's with 100 sq'. you need to read the box.
