My wife has been cleaning out closets and drawers, and found a pack of *really* old photos.

This was my 1962 MGA 1600 Mk II.

When I bought it, it was a wreck. Price tag $200. I was 16 years old.

Holes in the rear fenders that you could stick your arm into (and out at the bottom). But, then again, a whole new fender from England only cost me $33, including shipping.

I fixed it, overhauled the engine, transmission and differential. Replaced the twin 6V batteries (positive ground). Did a lot of welding to replace the floor pans, etc. I repainted it in my parents' garage.

Turned out pretty good. I think it got a few coats of Classic Car Wax. Looks a little dull. Polishing by hand.

Parents wouldn't let me drive it to college (Purdue), so it got sold for $1200. Wonder what it would be worth today.

Don't have a pic handy, but my first wheels were my Dad's '64 Oldsmobile Delta 88 - aka "the Tank".

And greetings from a fellow Boilermaker! :xyxthumbs:

This 1964 Pontiac Bonneville was purchased new by my Dad...he gave it to me when I graduated high school. This was the best car ever bolted together by anyone, anywhere. Completely reliable, great fuel economy (389 4-barrel and got 25 mpg at a steady 75mph). I cared for and drove this car for years...through college, etc. Eventually I was run off the road by someone failing to stop for a posted stop sign. The car was never the same again. I ended up selling it in the early '90s to a guy who only wanted the engine. Even then, the plastic seat covers my Dad installed when he bought the car were still there and the upholstery under it still perfect.

Of all the cars I've owned, this is the one I would want back the most.

Heres mine.
Nice Type 3, is it a Squareback or a Fastback? I can't quite tell from the picture. My first 6 cars (that's right, 6, they all kinda just started showing up ) were aircooled VWs. 4 Karmann Ghias (very first car was a '71 Saturn Yellow KG 'Vert), a '67 Type 3 Squareback with 44k original miles, and a '74 Beetle. I miss them all, I had quite the collection going, luckily they didn't take up too much spaceIm the MAN

So fricken jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I am extremely lucky. She is the main reason I got so into detailing. To tell you how much I love my car in our last newspaper all the seniors get "Mostly likely to go something". Mine was most likely to find a way to legally marry his car. I was proud. :dblthumb2:

Id be surprised if half the people on here know what it is
