I picked up this LED Spot light at Advance Auto Parts. It looks much like this one (http://www.autogeek.net/brinkmann-swirl-finder-light.html) on AGO.

I'm wondering if it is just crap or if I am using it incorrectly. In some instances, I feel like I can see swirls better without the spotlight than with the spot light. In some cases I feel like aiming it perpendicular to the surface works the best, but I often see swirls at angles under natural light.

Does the ambient lighting matter (incandescent v. sunlight, etc.)?

Here is a good thread talking about the differences between the LED and Xenon.
