I just detailed my car today. It had been clayed and fully polished a few months ago so the paint was in great shape. I cleaned it, used Iron X, then stripped the old Opti-Seal layer with Griots Paint Prep. Then I put on a coat of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant. It looks really nice but my flake is not popping.
I think this is due to what Mike Phillips calls "Working Backwards" by chemically stripping the paint instead of using a Pre-Wax cleaner such as Wolfgang PPE. I feel that because of this I lost some gloss/clarity and flake pop. I am going to order PPE and try again using PPE before DGPS this time.
I had a a few questions:
1. Can I use a softer black or blue LC flat pad with Wolfgang PPE instead of a white polishing pad (Because my paint is so soft)?
2. Do you need to prime the pad with PPE?
3. I guess I can go right into WGDGPS after PPE (No cure time on the PPE right?) which seems weird because I would assume there would be bonding issues with the fillers in PPE?
4. Finally if I do this next weekend will the PPE remove the layer of DGPS that I just applied? I assume so and its ok becaue I will add another coat after the PPE.
Thanks,
Drew
