1987 Chevy 4x4 Extreme Makeover (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/sign-up-project-cars-clinics/64501-1987-chevy-4x4-extreme-makeover.html)

Have not decided upon a date for this but it's coming up pretty quick. I just bought this really sweet 1987 Chevy Silverado 4x4 but the guy that painted it left holograms throughout the entire finish.

To start with, we're going to machine buff all the paint to remove the holograms and restore a deep, wet shine. Later down the road we will be using this truck for a wetsanding project.

Looks good in this shot...

I bought it from the guy that built it, his name is Will. Will sought out a reputable painter and hired them to paint the truck. He told me he was never happy with the paint job. He said it always looked like something was wrong?

Here's the deal... you can hire the BEST PAINTER in the WORLD but it's the guy that does the wetsanding, cutting and buffing that makes or breaks the end-results.

If fact, I have an article and a quote for this topic here,

It's the person that does the wet-sanding, cutting and buffing that makes or breaks the paint job -Mike Phillips (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/wet-sanding-cutting-buffing/28707-s-person-does-wet-sanding-cutting-buffing-makes-breaks-paint-job-mike-phillips.html)

So I don't know the painter and since I've only washed the truck once and that's as far as I've had time to get into the truck, I can't tell you at this time as to whether the "quality" of the paint job is good or not.

I can tell you that the quality of the sanding and buffing is horrible but that's okay as we're going to fix the problem.

When Will told me he thought there was a problem with the paint job but wasn't sure what the problem was, it made me think of this article...

The difference between a swirl and squirrel (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/off-topic/23142-difference-between-swirl-squirrel.html)

Point being, most people don't know the difference between swirls and squirrels...

For clarification...

This is a Squirrel

No problems...

It's on!

We're going to do an Extreme Makeover on my truck this Thursday night!

We're only going to machine polish the paint and save machine sanding it for another date project. After driving this truck all over South Florida this last weekend I can't take it any longer! The swirls have to go!

I also want to use a one-step cleaner/wax on the inside of the bed as the bed is straight and has great paint and I want to clean it up and get it protected before the BedRug goes in and after that the Roll Bar and Tool Box.

So if you're game... be here this Thursday starting at 5:00pm

This is going to be fun!
