View Full Version : Black paint summer suggestions

I've been using the BFWD products on my black 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee since new. They seem like pretty decent products but, I'm wondering if there is something better for my application.

I find that the BFWD paint sealant doesn't seem to hold up to the Texas sun. I live in the Houston area and the summers are brutal. The sides of the truck do ok but, the hood, roof, and the tops of the fenders need help. The BFWD sealant only seems to last a couple of months on the upper surfaces and needs regular upkeep with the spray.

Is there something better that I should be using? Is there something that I could use on top of the BFWD? I'd like something that gives a nice deep glossy look and provides an extra layer of protection.

I've read a lot about the Collinite 845. Would this be a good choice? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!
Eric

In your type of summer environment, a sealant that lasts a couple of months
is doing pretty good in my book.

You just may have to reapply them (or their "spray") more often than what
some of us living in States like Ohio will do during our summer times.

I've been known to use Collinite Waxes (#845;#915) year 'round.
I've also seen it hit 100/100+ a few times up here...every now and then.

Do you top it with BF Spray Wax or Crystal Seal ever? Doing that after a wash can substantially (indefinitely?) prolong the life of a sealant like BF WD. That's the easiest way out

Of course, if you just want to try something new that wont be affected by heat, there is always Permanon. That's good until like 500 degrees or something.

Something designed specifically for black and is meant to look go a while is BF Black Ice. You can apply it over WD.

Instead of using a sealant and a topper, a coating like Carpro's Cquartz or Optimum's Opti-Coat may be a good alternative for you..:xyxthumbs: I use to be strictly a nuba, or a sealant/nuba guy, but 95% of what I do now is "coatings". Here's a couple of pictures (I had quick access to) of black cars I've coated with CQ Finest ...

You are correct, that is my good friend Corey (owner of Carpro-US)! This Porsche is one of two black vehicles we coated while in Turkey, the other was an Alfa Romeo:dblthumb2:

Thanks for all the suggestions! That gives me a lot more products to research. There's so many products out there...

What do you guys think about this? - Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Paste Wax, high melt polymer car wax, Finish care auto wax (http://www.autogeek.net/finish-kare-1000p-wax.html)
