I use a 12 gauge extension cord, 50 feet in length when I use my PE-14. If you are using a smaller grade of your cord that will heat up your machine.

Both my Flex 3401 and PE14-2-150 get very warm when worked. This is normal and the reason why Flex places plastic guards around these areas and directs air flow to further aid in cooling.

:iagree:. The PE-14 pulls a good load. Use a minimum of 14 gauge @50ft or less.

I use 14 guage @ 25ft on my 3401 and 12 gauge @ 50ft on the PE-114.

Keep in mind that not all cables are made the same. Many of the cheap orange 14 gauge extensions are very poorly made. I've measured ridiculous voltage drops on them especially when loaded. The green and white types made for X-Mas lights are also no good.
