Mike Phillips uses Napa air tool lubricant. For more information, check out his article here:

Lubricating the Felt Ring on the Flex 3401 (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/tricks-tips-techniques/34201-lubricating-felt-ring-flex-3401-a.html)

What to use?I went to NAPA and purchased some Air Tool Lubricant, (see picture), but any light machine oil should work including the traditional 3-in-1 Oil.

You do not need to lube the ring. Just plug it in and polish away.

Agreed! Although I did lube mine with some sort of oil lying around before I researched and found it was pointless lol. Oh well!
