So as some of you know I normally detail over a weekend and for the most part spend somewhere between 18 and 25 hours on a car - the forced deadline certainly makes it tougher and does not leave much time for sleep etc so..... with me currently being on leave and the owner of this car not being in any rush for the car, I was able to invest 32 hours on the car at my own leisure over the past 4 days - what a different experience.

This is a 2002 model with just over 100K km's on the clock and the current owner is the 2nd owner from new. 13 Years on and the paintwork showed signs of a hard life doing daily duty.... plenty of swirls (some rather deep), deep scratches, water spots, contamination etc but the car had received its usual 2 bucket wash the morning before it was dropped off with me - the interior was however in really good condition.

Day 1 - Tuesday (10.5 hours)
Wheels, Tires, Brake Caliper, Wheel Arches, Engine Bay, Door Jambs, Boot Jamb, Badges

The wheels were removed from the car revealing a lot of built up dirt, road grime and tar
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Detailing%20-%20Grant%20Jetta/IMG_5943_zpsdb6369b7.jpg

The arches, brake calipers and exposed suspension bits were hosed off with a high pressure washer and then sprayed with APC, which was then left to dwell before being agitated with various brushes and rinsed and treated

The wheels themselves were definitely the worst I have done to date. The faces had dirt buildup in the usual places and were no worse than most....

But the inside barrels.... well....
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Detailing%20-%20Grant%20Jetta/IMG_5936_zpscd00a3d2.jpg

I started by spraying APC onto the tires and then scrubbing them with a Mothers Tire Brush. I then cleaned the rims with Sonax Extreme Wheel cleaner and it only removed some of the 13 years of baked in brake dust (I landed up using a whole bottle on these wheels, along with a fair amount of AF Iron out)
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Detailing%20-%20Grant%20Jetta/IMG_5938_zps48b707c2.jpg

I then hit them with AF Iron Out leaving them almost clean, but still with tar deposits on them.
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Detailing%20-%20Grant%20Jetta/IMG_5984_zps8c0db0a9.jpg

After removing the tar they were given a final working of Iron AF Out and were finally clean
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Detailing%20-%20Grant%20Jetta/IMG_5946_zps7d1f2ee3.jpg[/URL]

They were then sealed and tires dressed and refitted to the car

Engine Bay
All loose dirt/dust was blown out the engine bay and a thorough cleaning was performed and the engine bay then dressed.

At this point I will apologise for the lack of after pics - the weather turned for the worse at the end of the detail - when I usually go around and snap up all the after pics so I got caught out a little

Door Jambs, Boot Jamb, Badges
APC was sprayed on, left to dwell and agitated before being rinsed with a HP washer

With all the really dirty work out the way day 1 came to and end

Day 2 - Wednesday (9 hours)
Wash and decontamination

All the surface dirt was washed off and any previous protection stripped off the paint and the car was then rinsed and dried in preparation for tar removal. Although there were no obvious 'globs' of tar evident on the paint work, there was still tar present.
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Detailing%20-%20Grant%20Jetta/IMG_6042_zpsa3ee1336.jpg

Once the tar had been removed, the entire car (including the windows) was subjected to a full iron decontamination.

I then clayed the paintwork and glass surfaces, yielding no more or less than 'average contamination'

Paint correction
As always the first port of call was dialing in the correct pad/product combo. I stated on the right of the tape line with PF2500 but it did not provide enough cut and I landed up at FG400 which obviously has a lot more cut on the left and was really pleasantly surprised at how well it finished off. Given the state of the paint before I started I was happy that the owner would be satisfied with the results and therefore settled on a 1 step polish with FG400.

So as mentioned earlier, the after pics on this detail were a bit of a fail and so the best way I can illustrate the transformation to the paint is to show you the before pics I took in the sun before starting correction, and some afters prior to paint cleaning, blacklight or LSP's.

I completed polishing and then cleaned the paint before applying BL and then sealed it using V7 & #845.

The interior was vacuumed and all leather surfaces cleaned and treated.

Day 4 - Friday (4hrs)
Glass, Exterior Trim, Final Touches

All glass surfaces were cleaned and treated and all exterior plastic trim treated. The entire car was then given a final wipe down

HOLY CRAP, what a job on the wheels. Oh the car came out ok too :dblthumb2:. I would like to see a dealer take this job on and get the results you did! Yeah who am I kidding, they would leave dealer installed holograms.

Thanks - When VW released this car over here (South Africa) it was called a Jetta, where most of the rest of the world knows them as a Bora.

The V5 version is a 2.3l 20v 5 cylinder (in the V pattern common on V6's, V8's etc) making roughly 170 PS (168 bhp) (125 kW) @ 6200 rpm and 220 Nm (162 lb.ft) @ 3300 rpm
