Hello fellows,
I love the "Show and Shine" to see the before and afters and dramatic transformations but sometimes I look just because it is an unusual or nostalgic car.
I've never showcased my work on the forum, because frankly I've never felt overwhelmed enough with my skills to "mentor" others. I did debate a while before posting this, but I finally convinced myself to post because this is truly a sick looking Bronco, and though you would enjoy it.
The subject This is a 1970 heavily customized Bronco. It was repainted 2 years ago and appeared on a truck magazine. The owner was put in touch with me because he was looking to revive this beauty queen. It came to me in a pretty dirty state but not exactly neglected. She looked very good under a nasty layer of dust and dirt. She suffered a couple of blemishes from bird bombs and our Southern "love bugs". In addition, she was also mishandled by the body shop which did the paint and from improper washing.
As mentioned before the paint was redone a couple of years ago. It was described to me as a House of Color Candy Burnt Orange w/ heavy flake. The flake on this puppy is so crazy that it made it hard to get good pictures, especially in the full sun.
The Process
Being that I was dealing with an antique, I was very conservative in throwing the pressure washer to it. I used ONR to get the dust and dirt off.
Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine: clay lubricant, optimum rinseless wash, no rinse car wash, optimum detailing products (http://www.autogeek.net/optimum-no-rinse.html)
I used a combo Mr.Pink and ONR mix for claying using the Nanoskin Autoscrub mitt (fine grade).
Chemical Guys Mr. Pink Super Suds Shampoo Superior Surface Cleanser (http://www.autogeek.net/chemical-guys-mr-pink-shampoo.html)
Nanoskin AutoScrub Fine Grade Wash Mitt (http://www.autogeek.net/nanoskin-autoscrub-wash-mitt-fine-grade.html)
The tires were hit with Amazing Roll-off and some elbow grease was exerted using the Mother's tire scrub brush
Spray on Amazing Roll Off and watch the dirt roll off! (http://www.autogeek.net/amazing-roll-off.html)
Mothers Contoured Tire Brush mimics the shape of your car's tires to clean the rubber effectively. Use Mothers Tire & Rubber Cleaner with the (http://www.autogeek.net/mothers-contoured-tire-brush.html)
The rims were pretty oxided so they were revived using the Lake Country wool ball (on a corded drill) and the Marine 31 Aluminum polish
Lake Country Wool-Ball 3 inch & 5 inch Polishing Balls Combo (http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-wool-ball-combo.html)
Marine 31 Finish Cut Metal Restoring Polish (http://www.autogeek.net/marine-31-boat-metal-polish.html)
The paint required some basic TLC, so I broke out the trusty GG6 and after a couple of test spots I selected the white 5.5" LC flat pad and the Menzerna SF4000, although a couple of area actually required the PF2500.
Griot's Garage 6 inch Random Orbital Polisher, Dual action buffer, DA polisher (http://www.autogeek.net/griots-random-orbital-polisher.html)
Lake Country 5 1/2 x 7/8 inch Beveled Edge Pads 6 Pack, foam pad kit, build a kit, buffing pads, curved edge pads (http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-beveled-pad-kit.html)
Menzerna Nano Polish PO 106 FA, Menzerna Final Polish, Nano abrasives, finishing polish, professional polish (http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-super-nano-polish.html)
Menzerna Power Finish PO 203, one step polish, swirl remover, finishing polish, car polish, german car polish, menzerna polishing compounds, power (http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-power-finish.html)
A quality mirror finish was accomplish!!
Following the polishing (and minor compounding) I applied a couple of different products and selected the CG Blacklight and Pete 53 combination. The flake "popped" off the paint and the wax just gave everything a dripping wet appearance.
Chemical Guys Black Light Hybrid Radiant Finish 16 oz. (http://www.autogeek.net/chemical-guys-black-light-hybrid-radiant-finish.html)
Chemical Guys Pete's 53'-Pearl Signature Paste Wax 8 oz (http://www.autogeek.net/chemical-guys-petes-53-paste-wax.html)
I did do a final wipe down with a gloss enhancer which is not sold here so I won't mention it.
The final step was to dress the tires. Don't ask why.... but I used 2 different products to achieve the look the customer was after. I am not a chemist and have no idea if I am messing things up but the results are incredible and lasting.
Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel this thick gel penetrates beneath the surface to give your tires a long-lasting true glow! (http://www.autogeek.net/wg4700.html)
Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel dresses your tires in a dark, satin finish that protects the rubber for weeks! This tire dressing and protectant enhances (http://www.autogeek.net/piblontigel.html)
I know what you guys are thinking..... "This thread is useless without pictures!". I do have pictures posted on my FB website and feel extremely lazy so I don't really want to upload them. Here is a link to the page. I used tinyURL to shorten the link. Please visit, like and follow if you want.
P.S. To the moderators, If this linking to my FB website is against policies, I will be more than happy to post them here.
