IMO only if your using one bucket, otherwise some grit will still suspend in the water and float around. One of my buckets the grit guard just won't stay down anyway lol. I just have a couple buckets to rinse my shmitt but I also give a spray of the hose each time, gets off any dirt. I use my grit guards to place on the ground and lay my shmitt and other suplies on when I have to work with something else or switch etc. Haven't used mine in over a year, and never got any swirls, but I have my process as above, I don't just use one or two buckets.

I use 2 buckets, but 4 total, 2 for paint and 2 for rims.

i consider it just a extra safegaurd....if you use the 2 bucket method and keep rinsing the mitt after every panel you should be okay, you shouldnt be getting dirt into the soap bucket anyway

I think they help to a degree, and use in 2 bucket method as well. It does trap your hand (and thus mitt) from going to the bottom. Yes some dirt is stirred when rinsing mitt but again some protection is better than none.

Yes. I see the dirt in the bottom of the bucket and I use the 2 bucket method.

As do I.. I like using it to clean the hairs on my sheep skin. Mine stays at the bottom as well it doesn't float.

Hahaha. It came with the microwave, its some kind of plastic tray thing. Ive been searching online for them, but cant find it anywhere. I dont see any difference between that and the thing AG sells. So, this will be my grit guard.

I don't see a problem as long as it works. What is the name brand of your microwave?
