I believe the DG 501 I'll be using on my car very soon contains some nano diminishing abrasives. This time my car has some mild cobwebs so I was thinking of trying to kick up its correcting ability a little by adding a pea or two of Swirl-X to the pad. I'm not placing any orders anytime soon, (the Mrs.), so I want something OTC. Just wondering if it is inadvisable to add a little SMAT (Swirl-X) to a DAT (501).

I personally don't practice mixing products. Don't have a problem if other do but as a practice I don't.

Normally, when someone is mixing product they're trying to create a product that already exists in some form somewhere, they just don't have it or don't know about it.

In you're case, you won't know whether your mixture will work for what you want to do or not until you try.

If and when you try, start by doing a Test Spot and make sure you're getting the results you hope and dream about before going over the entire car.

(and why it's so important)

Thanks Mike. I'll proceed with caution.

Meg's D151 has more correcting ability than DG 501. A lot more. If you need more abrasives then DG 501 is not going to do much for you.

It's a great product with amazing cleaning and durability, but correction is not one of them.

That's a good point Jim.

To the OP, just use the SwirlX by itself. You can always adjust how aggressive the product" is by using more or less aggressive pads.

You can also buff section more than once.

SwirlX is a "Fine Cut Polish" and can tackle light or shallow swirls all by itself. I need to update this article but it will give you an idea...

The label on SwirlX includes a car I personally polished and it's kind of cool to have products on the market with cars I've actually worked on...

I forgot who it was but I read someone on here who was mixing D151 and DG 501 on the pad and had awesome results with it. Had decent cut and the durability was good since it had the 501 in it.

Thanks. I had been considering D151 for the future. I only do my own car (2x/yr) and don't see it in less than a gal. I was just looking for quick solution for this spring using what I have and something OTC.

I love DG 501. It's just not going to remove a lot of swirls. I have it on my own car and its a really great product.
