Sorry I worded my last statement wrong. I know they are just straight lines. Just didn't hit me that all straight lines would be better than ones in every direction.

I would say that neither are good. They are all equally bad.

Agreed.

But if you had to have one I'd rather have straight.

Nice 4 part video on polishing. Very informative

Do you guys have good luck with the AG Cobra Micro-Chenille mitt not causing swirls? I like mine but they tend to soak up alot of water and get heavy. I mainly use them for lower panes and use a Carpro Merino Mitt for the upper part of the car.

That's 5 part series. Me personally, I'd rather have neither but I can eliminate either just as effectively. Straight or swirls, they are equally fixable using the technique I outline in those videos.

My bad 5.

Me too, but I was saying before that what was the point of going up and down as opposed to side to side, if it's going to leave a mark it's going to leave a mark. Then someone commented and said if you leave a swirl, or straight lines in multiple directions as we discussed, that the light will show them at almost any angle where lines in the same direction will not reflect light as much and show as much. So I was saying it makes sense then to go with a back and forth or up and down motion rather than a circular wax on wax off motion.

I just used mine yesterday and it does soak up a ton of water. I just give it a good squeeze after rinsing it then a lighter squeeze after puting it in the wash bucket. The fact it holds more seems it would be less likely to scratch the paint.

The truth that a lot of people don't understand is that swirls are not circles at all. They are perfectly straight lines, bunched together that cover every single angle of a circle. If you look close enough, you'll see that none of the lines are curved.

The sun is round, so the markings appear round.

I seriously doubt that the mitt is 100% the culprit. The car soap should have provided enough lubrication unless the user was putting pressure on the mitt and not checking for debris.

That's not the sun, that's the flash from my camera and it's actually square. Like I said previously, the scratches cover every angle of a circle. That's why they appear round.

lol! I use pictures like these to explain how light bouncing off all those scratches in paint really make it look dull and crappy. Then I'll fix the paint and take another picture. Man do the light bulbs come on after they see the second picture.
