Is there any specific polish/pad recommended to prep the headlights for application or would a combo of sonax and a polishing pad do the trick? Car is pretty much brand new with no scratches or discoloration.

Optimum Polymer Technologies recommends their Optimum Hyper Compound/Hyper Polish...
IPA/Mineral Spirits for the: "Wipe-down"

You probably mean the headlamp lenses (perhaps taillamps also)?

NOTE: It has been said that Opti-Lens may create some "haze"...
if used on vehicles' painted-surfaces.

BTW: Do you have the Pro, Consumer, (or both) versions of Opti-Lens?

Consumer, is there a special headlight pad or would a white polishing pad do the trick?

If the car is new and there are no defects to remove, you can use the white pad with a mild finishing polish. You're just making sure the surface is clean and free of contaminants.
