Tools and products:
Gg6 with 5.5 & 4 inch LC Cyan and Orange pads
Meg's Clay bar, Ultimate compound and Polish
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 (free sample!!)

The wife decided to go get her cosmetics done yesterday, so I had to make the decision of whether or not to start and finish the jeep... or start on the Yukon, can you guess which one I went with? lol

So here's how you can tell that in addicted... Here I sit, 4:30 AM, and I'm warming the garage up cause I couldn't sleep. Work comes in 4 hours, but I'm so excited about my progress that I just had to get up and share, posts preliminary pics and hop back to it! Is Ultimate Polish supposed to smell soooo good? :dizzy:

:buffing:

Here's where I'm at so far:

She's not too dirty, but we've gotta get that Turtle Wax off of there!! So I did a dawn wash, cause that's what I've got.

The wheels are shot. You can't see it in the pics, but the barrels of these wheels are peeling like a banana in a zoo! :(

I really need to get aggressive with the face of these, but not being sure what else to try (Maguiars wheel cleaner and simple green both gave a valiant effort), I temporarily give up. Then theres the deep scratches in the wheel face! Mothers wheel ball, or like? :quizzical:
http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy91/FishinCricket/projects/36FA6A89-D56A-4C8F-95A4-DDF527CA9055-9942-00000C577FF47CA0_zpse2c1bfb8.jpg

Lots or RIDS from branch scratches and such, and swirls everywhere.

As mentioned, I left the barrels alone cause they are peeking like crazy, these wheels need to be recoated or dipped or something.. Wonder how they would look blacked out?

Anyway, enough time wasted on wheels, lets get back to the paint!

After test spot

So I drug it back into the garage last night and got out the step ladder. The roof was completed and sealed, and I managed to compound the entire drivers side and am polishing this AM. Pics due tomorrow evening at the latest! :)

Looks like you've got a formula that'll work - kudos! Brings back memories - I had an '03 Yukon (pewtrid metallic) for many years - and I detailed too many GM trucks of that vintage to count. Great trucks, and a lot of fun to work on as well.

Wheels....I'm actually surprised you've gotten 10 years out of those. With the black fender flares, I bet they'd look awesome if you go the paint (or powdercoat) route in black.

Have fun with the correction - looking forward to the results.

So, remember those branch scratches I mentioned in the first post? Here's a close up:

It's first peek of daylight, coated in WGDGPS_3.0:

Please note that I don't have a set process for wheels, wheels flares or glass.. So I left those alone.

Soft glow of morning sun:

All the sudden the hail dents on my hood are surprisingly evident!

Two down, just one more to go!!

Now, what to do about the rotting wheels, severe road rash on the lower rockers AND those discolored wheel flares.. I'm starting to think a can of plasti-dip might be a viable solution.... :pondering:

The PPG name if this color is "Redfire Metallic", the sun really does reveal a beautiful golden/burning glow to the paint!!

Good job man. How did the wheels turn out?

Good job man. How did the wheels turn out?

thanks.. The wheels are still rock rashed, but I'm coming to terms with it. Especially considering that this wheel/tire combo was purchased by the original owner because they were "as close as he could get to bead locks while still remaining street legal"

It's obvious they've seen some action.

I'm thinking of popping for a polishing ball and some metal polish, but opted on spending that money on removing those dents in the hood.

I'll get to the wheels after winter is over. At least that is what I'm telling myself.

The Yukon is really looking great! Depending on how much work those wheels will require, I would consider sanding down and painting with Dupli-Color Wheel Coating in graphite. I'm not crazy about the black out theme personally. I think Antracite would look amazing with that paint! Awesome motivation you have sir!

Thank you, I was definitely wore out! lol

Hmm, sanding and painting the wheels? Interesting thought.

I definitely wouldn't spend any time trying to correct the finish on those wheels. Leave 'em as-is, or yank 'em for a refin. If you otherwise like the flares, a good cleanup will work wonders. There's a thread in the 'ask Mike' forum that talks about cleaning textured plastic...I can say from experience that it works wonders on GM's flares. Another option might be to have them smoothed and color-matched. My local body shop has done that. It's not cheap - roughly $500 - but it is a bit less expensive than buying OEM smooth flares and having them painted and installed. (The third option there might be Bushwacker or other aftermarket alternative.)

The paint looks great - very nice job!

lol, yeah BB I told him.. Maybe I should have used the visual aids? lol

Jerry: thak you for the advice, I think I'll check in on that thread.. I'm certainly not going to be investing a basket full in that direction. Truly I can only justify any expense if it teaches me something that will help me down the road..

you could plasti dip both the wheels and flares...

or hit the flares with cquartz dlux
