PreWax Cleaner Comparision

I did another pre wax cleaner comparison using the black paint on my tool box as the surface. This time I wanted to compare P21S, PB's Pro Polish, BF GEP, & P21S Paint Cleaner. Just for fun I threw in some NaviWax Ultimate to see what it would do. All the paint cleaners here are non abrasive. There is nothing scientific about this testing, I primarily did it because I'm waiting for the snow :(.

Here you can see what each product looked like and how "aggressively" it removed the single stage Crafstman paint.Basically, I applied all by hand, with a separate MF towel edge. I tried to work each product the same amount of time (~ 1 minute) with the same pressure on a separate section of the same MF towel to avoid contamination. I repeated this procedure a second time the se way for all.

Each product was somewhat different, as most do different things (slightly)

P21S:
This product was the most watery of all. It also seemed the least aggressive and had the shortest "work time". This is probably not the product to use if you are working by machine, as you will use a lot of it compared to the others. It left a glossy surface and it left the slickest surface of all. It filled well, but it didn't fill the best.

PB PP:
This product seemed the most aggressive and seemed to clean the best. From what I know, this is a polish without abrasives and contains no fillers. This may be the best product to use on glass, chrome, or if you are applying another manufacturers' sealant. It cleans very well. It left little, if any slickness, as you would expect from a polish.

NaviWax Ultimate:
I added this just for the heck of it. I noticed this surface looks the best of all. However, this is an LSP - not a pre-wax cleaner. The tool box paint is very soft and wiping it induced towel marks. The Naviwax filled the towel marks and left a very uniform looking surface. Application was difficult, as was removal. I can't see using this LSP by machine. I received this as a sample, and I think it's dried out a bit. It left a glassy and glossy surface and it filled up some very micro sized scratches - not larger ones.

Wolfgang PPE & Blackfire GEP:
Both of these products seemed quite similar so I am combining them. Both are easy to use and would seem to work well by hand or machine, as the working time was plenty long. Both filled small scratches and left a glossy surface.

From the products web pages, the BF product says it has a "glaze" in it and the Wolfgang product says it contains "micro-fillers". Both seems to work very well and would be great to remove an old LSP and apply a new one. Both products seem to enhance the surface and add gloss and slickness. Both cleaned well.

What I am a little uncertain about is how both products contain "fillers"/glaze and how both products are recommended to use prior to their name sakes sealants. So, whatever is in them, it seems it doesn't interfere with the bonding of a sealant. I'm guessing it has acrylic type fillers, not "oily" like Meg's #7.

It was really hard to distinguish between these two. However, you could tell they weren't the same. Each had a different consistency and a different chemical smell. The Wolfgang was more like a gel and the Blackfire was more like a lotion.

As for looks, it was very similar. However, it seemed to me the
Blackfire may have looked a little better or glossier - it also seemed to fill the best. Both are good products.

Thanks so much! I'm using a GG6 and a non-XP 7424 with great results with each. Rupes seems like a great system with pads / speed / polish all matched. Of course, AG is the place to get it, since they carry the FULL LINE. I couldn't see spending all the money on the machine and using it with someone else's polishes, as many other places only carry the machine - but no polishes.

I only need to pick up a buffer once every 3-4 mos, since I'm a hobbyist that only works in his own cars. Cost wise, it would be hard for me to justify the purchase of a Rupes, but winning it would be awesome!

BTW: PB PP is a fantastic metal polish also. Very versatile product and can add some "cut" with the right machine/pad combo. I have also topped it with different waxes and sealants and NEVER had any bonding issues.
