Oil won't degrade in a three month period, particularly a synthetic oil. I think the 3 month, 3000 mile rule is just to help those drivers who are challenged when it comes to using an odometer to remember when the last change was. Changing it with 700 miles on it is simply throwing money out the window put 3000 on it then change it.

Yeah, that would be silly to change at 700miles. Most synthetics will take you 5000 miles+ before needing changed. Actually, they are changing the standard interval to 5000-7500 miles before changing the oil now.

I think all manufacturers are changes their specs to 7500 mile changes, except for sports cars or other cars that are driven harder/under more stress. Pretty sure Ford just raised theirs from 3K to 7500.

I use pure synthetic oil and go 6 months or 5,000 miles whichever comes first.

Some manufacturers say if you use pure synthetic, you can go up to 10months or 7,500 miles, depending on your driving conditions, so for you Bill, I would not be afraid to go 9-10 months, but I would use a pure synthetic only.....like Mobil 1.

The manual for my car says use synthetic and change 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is first. Sounds crazy eh?

Since it gets driven so little go by the calender instead of the odometer. At your current rate change at one year.

I do 10K miles on synthetic or 12 months, whichever comes first :p. If it's a garage queen that barely hits the streets, then I'd treat that differently. If it's dino oil, I'll go 5k then change.

Bill...I use Mobil 1 extended synthetic oil...I go 10,000 between changes...I change the filter at 5000...I use either a Pure 1 filter or a Wix Gold...and when I do a drain it looks very good...I do a oil analasyst at 5000 miles and it comes back perfect...the real trick to keeping oil working is good air filter that does fine filtering and get all the fine dust particles that work as a abrasive...I use either a Pure 1 air filter or a baldwin surpreme...both are rated in the top filters...K&N is not a good filter...it does not filter the fine silica dust..thats abrasive as hell...

So I think you can go a little longer with your oil...LOL....
