First time using GG 3" machine on paint...

I recently purchased the GG 3" ROP and so far I'm impressed. I have done a couple headlight restores with it but this is the first time I've ever done any paint correction.

I recently bought a '97 Harley FXSTC and after doing some repairs (after all it is 16 years old) I decided it was time to
start on the detail.

I removed the seat so I could have access to the entire rear fender. I never realized the paint was so bad until I put a light on it. The pictures tell the story. Not bad for first try I suppose.

I used Megs UC on Optimum 3.25" compounding pad. After a wipe down I used Collinite 845 liquid on Optimum 3.25" polishing pad. I then topped off with Blackfire CS. Yesterday I hand applied another coat of 845.

What did I do right/wrong? I'm still learning so your constructive criticism is appreciated.

First, nice job as that is a heck of an improvement! Judging by the haze in your after picture, I would recommend following up with a polish such as Meguiar's Ultimate Polish or even M205. Either of these can be found at your local AutoZone.

After you polish, rewash or do an IPA wipedown. Then apply your LSP. I am not familiar with Blackfire CS, but, I would recommend applying the Blackfire CS and letting it cure. Then, apply the 845 later. The way you originally applied your LSP is kind of backwards, I think.

I think you did a great job. For as bad as that fender was, the 3" polisher did a great job.

I think you're right. It does seem to make sense to use Meg's UP after the compound. So you are saying I should apply sealer after polishing, let cure, and then 845 last?

i have the GG 3 inch and i wasnt impressed its not enough torque for me, i just use my megs DA with 3 BP

Correct. CS is a sealant so you want that first to protect. 845 is your topper as it technically is a wax that performs like a sealant.

yep, polish, clean off any oils or residue then seal.

That looks quite nice. I always thought that 3" deal was a toy.....maybe not.

I can hardly wait to see how it's going to look after I polish. I'm going to finish detailing the chrome and engine and then come back to the paint. I'll try to take some better pictures when I finish.

Yes it may look like a toy, but it really did the job for me. It is lightweight and easy to maneuver and seems like a no brainer for a motorcycle. I had the speed set on 5. Thanks for the input
