...and you add 10% buyers fee and state sales tax and it's probably close to $5 million.

Mike congrats on the Bat Mobile sale. If it wasn't for your polish they never would have gotten $4.2 million for the car. It shows what Mike and his son can do. The car is really only worth $200,000.

$4.2 million, amazing! I'm starting to get addicted to the Barrett-Jackson and Mecum auto auction shows. Would love to buy a 1950-60 convertible, but that's way in the future, if at all. Too bad GW Bush's pickup truck didn't fetch more than $300,000 for the Fisher House charity for wounded GI's.
As cool as the Batmobile is (and I am old enough to have enjoyed the original show as a kid) I would have preferred that the truck went for the $4.2 million instead.

I hear 'ya about the auction addiction. The encyclopedic knowledge on the history that some of the commentators bring is one of the best parts.

The Batmobile started life as a '55 Ford/Lincoln Future concept car. Going by the amounts that some of the concept cars bring at auction (most of them are sent to the crusher so they're rare to begin with), arguably the Batmobile could have brought 7 figures even without the bat man association. But, some cars bring more for the story behind them than the car itself.

That Virgil Exner 1956 Chrysler Diablo concept car brought $1.4 million if I remember, but I don't think that met the reserve.

The batmobile sold at the auction was the original which has been in the owners possesion since its creation. The one done my Mike while at Meguiars was a replica built by a friend of his. There are numerous replicas of this and the other batman movie cars around. We have one here in Indy that is a regular at Cars & Coffee.
