I wuld love to put "period correct" whitewall tires for my 1966 Corvette; however, here's my main concern which is making me hesitate:

In ther past I have always preferred blackwall tires which are very easy to keep in a show room state by simply mantaining them with your favorite tire dressing from time to time keeping them nice and black with a vibrant glow.

1. Won't tire dressing stain/discolor the whitewall?

2. If so, then do you have to go around the white wall (both inner and outer) seems painfull and probably impossibel to do accurately?

3. So how do you satisfy "both worlds": a nice "snow white" whitewall and a vibrant look on the black sections without cross comtaminatin????

A friend mentioned to me that he believes that you can treat the complete tire wth 303 protective and achieve both? ------- that would be great if that's true!

Thank you very much,
Rabvet

Since a product like Armor All never really seemed to adversly discolor Whitewalls, I wouldn't suspect any of the better tire treatments available here on AG, or Autopia would harm them either, and in fact should be even better at protecting the entire tire, including the Whitewall.

Perhaps a tip would be to treat the Whitewalls first with an absolutely clean applicator, then go on to treat the remainder of the tires

All these newer treatments are either clear, or an opague clear.

Over the years, I've tried many differnt products on Whitewalls, and I still have to say Westleys Bleachwhite is still the best, easily gotten, and relatively inexpensive.

I'd stay away from anything like scouring powders. Mark

When I did my car before switching rims, the car had whitewalls which were period correct. Use 303 protectant after tire is cleaned. Works like a champ and doesnt yellow

Your concerns can easily be addressed by making sure the tire is clean. Power Clean removes filth other cleaners leave behind and I always use a brass brush to make white walls look new. When the tire is clean, theres no worry of the dressing discoloring the white.
