I know this will wound stupid considering a brand new 5 gallon bucket is cheap to begin with, but I have access to an unlimited supply so I thought I'd ask the experts:

How do you cheaply remove the stench of pickles from a 5 gallon pickle bucket? Any ideas?

Maybe try some vinegar poured into the buckets..Can transfer it after letting it soak in the bucket into the next bucket..worth a try and its cheap

Vinegar? Isn't that part of the pickle brine already? Hmmm....

A post from another forum conerning the pickle stench:

It's been my experience that you spend more time, effort and money by trying to de-odorize pickle buckets than you would have if you had bought new buckets. $2.34 from HD.
There is a reason they give these away.
You CAN NOT remove the pickle smell

Dont use pickle buckets unless you like everything to smell/taste like pickles.
I have one that is 32 years old from when I worked at Hardee's.
IT STILL SMELLS LIKE PICKLES.

They should be paying you to take the bucket

You can leave it in the sun for x number of days
You can use bleach
You can use baking soda
You can use Fabreeze
You can use comet cleanser
You can try ammonia
You can try cat litter
You can make a luggable-lu out of it.
no matter what you do...
IT WILL STILL SMELL LIKE PICKLES

lol, that's the answer I was lookin for...

Two questions then:

1. Assuming that I enjoy the smell of pickles, will it hurt to use one as a wash bucket if I bleach it or something first? (Again, I'm not so much concerned about the smell as much as the potential to ruin the soap)

2. Anybody in my area want about 20 pickle buckets? lol
