I was using my flex 3401 with a Meguires 3" microfiber cutting pad doing some minor corrections tonight and the pad totally separated. The separation occurred where the microfiber and the small foam backing pad are glued together. The pad is useless and can not be used again. I have maybe used this pad 3 or 4 times in the past and have cared for them as per the instructions.

I was using Meguires correction compound and the DA was running on speed 3 and I might of ran the machine a total of 25 seconds, then the separation occurred.

The pad was clean and dry with the exception of being primed

Anybody else have any issues with the Megs microfiber pads coming apart?

:dunno:

How did you make the 3" microfiber pad fit into the 3401? Maybe that's why it ripped.

How in the heck did he make a 3 inch pad fit a 3401? If you did somehow get it on there im sure the machine ate it for lunch.

I used the interchangeable backing plate system

FLEX XC3401 Changeable Backing Plate System (http://www.autogeek.net/flex-xc3401-backing-plates.html)

The smallest BP of that is still 4" which is larger than the 3" microfiber pad. You should be using the 3" Meguiar's BP for that pad along with a traditional D/A. The 6" microfiber pad is what's used for the 3401.
