View Full Version : Help! Really bad swirls/no clear coat!?
ok so i recently got my parents' old 528, and in the 10 years the car has been around, i don't think it has been detailed once!
when i got it did as much as i could to get it looking good again, but seriously the paint is in REALLY bad shape.
i'm going to be getting a PC and supllies soon, so i think that will help the situation.
here are some pictures of what you can see looking into the sun (some of them are adjusted to see the swirls and missing clearcoat)
The whole car is like the pictures of the swirls, but only the pillar in between the driverside rear window window and rear windshield is missing a coat of something

that looks like it's been repainted before, and the new paint is peeling, the bodyshop did a half assed job painting it.
as for the swirls, i'm sure you can remove them all with a PC and your fav polish

well the car is old, so if you can, just live with it.
the only way to repair is to repaint the whole panel or that area i would think.
just talked to my mom... appearently it hasn't been repainted
it has only been in 1 accident and the rear bumper was the only thing affected.
Feed back please
i'm thinking i should just go and put some clear laquer that came with the tough up paint on it, but idk if that's a good idea

That's definitley a repaint. Previous body shop did a shoddy job prepping.
there was no repaint that my parents know of... and they got the car when it was new.

Chip down the clear with a razor blade being super careful not to gouge the paint and then buff the base coat really hard with a wool pad. Here's what happened when I did one:

What causes the paint to get like that? None of the cars I have ever owned ever had the paint doing that! However, all 3 of my in-laws cars have that problem. They wash thier cars regularly too
