When I attended Mike’s detailing boot camp in September I was able to try out the M105/M205 combo for the first time. I was impressed with the results we were able to achieve with it on the test panels we had been wet sanding so I knew it was time to try it out when I got back home. An old co-worker of mine wanted me to do some correction on his neglected truck so I knocked it out with the M105/M205 combo and was delighted with the results.

I used a twisted wool Flex pad on the Flex 3401 for the M105 and was shocked how easily the paint was coming back to life. This F150 is 8 years old and had never been detailed or had any kind of protection on the paint. That coupled with the fact it is regularly used on hunting trips it was an oxidized, swirled out mess with a lot of RIDS.

The glass was covered with the worst water spots I have encountered and I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to remove them but I used the M105 and a twisted wool pad via the Flex 3401 on the windows as well and they cleaned up like a charm.

When I started with the M105 it was going well at first but after ¼ of the hood my pad began to become pretty caked with everything I was removing from the paint and the product itself. After every 16x16 inch section I was using a spur to clean the pad but it just wasn’t making much of a difference. The M105 began to gum up really quickly and I was only able to do about 2 section passes on each section before it would dry up and I had to add more product. I definitely need more practice to get the process dialed in but with how well it works it will be worth the time and frustration.

I didn’t have near enough pads to complete the compounding stage as I probably should have had about six or seven of them with how quickly they were becoming caked with paint and product. I had to wash them multiple times and make it work with what I had but in the end the paint came out great.

After the M105 I moved on to the M205 on a white pad with the Flex 3401 on a speed setting around 4.5. It did a great job refining the finish after all of the oxidation and defects were removed during the compounding stage. The last step was completed with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant and the paint looked great! Check out the pictures below and give me some feedback.

Products Used:
Foam gun
Chemical Guys Citrus Red Wash
Optimum Car Wash
TarX
Optimum Power Clean @ 3:1
ONR for clay lube
Meguiar’s Clay
Invisible Glass
M105/M205
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0
RainX
303 Aerospace Protectant
Meguiars’s Endurance Tire Shine

Procedure

Interior:
I blew everything out with compressed air from the compressor followed by a thorough vacuum. All door seals and jambs were cleaned with OPC and microfiber towels. All interior surfaces including the leather seats were cleaned with OPC and a Tampico bristle brush. Glass was cleaned with Invisible glass and many waffle weave microfibers. All surfaces and leather were dressed with 303.

Exterior:
Cleaned tires, wheels and wells with OPC and various brushes
Foamed the truck with CG Citrus Red and cleaned all trim and around emblems while it dwelled with various brushes.
Rinsed, foamed each panel I was working on again and washed with CG Citrus Red
Dried then clayed with ONR diluted for clay lube.
Compounded paint and glass with M105 with twisted wool pads on the 3401.
RainX was then applied to the windows.
Finished up the paint by polishing with M205 on white LCC pads with the 3401 again.
Buffed off the RainX from windows then gave the truck a final wash before applying WGDGPS.
After the sealant was applied and buffed off I finished up by dressing the tires with some Endurance Tire Shine.

Almost forgot but I also dressed all the exterior trim with Meguiar's Ultimate Black.

Thanks for looking, any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Looks great... :buffing:I'm in the process of doing my 14yr old f150(as time permits) with the m105/205 combo. With the m105 I used a CG microfiber pad on my GG6 at a speed of 3.5-4 and every time I added more product to the pad I will use compress air to clean it. Would just leave the GG6 running and blow it out while it was spinning and it worked great. I did the hood and one of the fenders this way with one pad before a ran out of time. Just wanted to share what I experienced doing my truck. Here is a link if you want to check it out.

Thanks Doug. I've never tried that Megs product yet but I'll get some on my next order and give it a try, thanks!

I was using the Flex 6.5" twisted wool pad. Back when I bought the 3401 they were selling them but they're not available anymore. Those are my favorite wool pads but I just ordered some of the LC 7.5" twisted wool pads so we'll see how those work out.

Thanks David, I was a little discouraged with all the water spots and RIDS but I was very happy with how it turned out.

Joe thanks for the tip about the compressed air. I don't have any MF pads yet but I never thought of using my compressor with the wool pads. I will definitely give it a try next time I use them.

I saw your thread about your truck when they featured it on Facebook and I was absolutely blown away with the quality of your work. How long have you been detailing? Thanks for the reply and I am looking forward to your updates as you make progress with the truck. Excellent work on the truck :xyxthumbs:

Nice detail job!! Windows look like mirrors now in those angle shots.
Great line of products.
May I ask about how many hours that took?

Thank you! It took about 8 hours the first day then it got dropped back off a few days later and I spent about another 3 to 4 hours on it so about 12 all together. I am going to get the Flex PE-14 in the next few weeks and sure wish I could have used it on that truck.

Haha, thanks Richy. I always look forward to seeing you post a new thread showcasing your work and maybe someday I can get up to your level of detailing :xyxthumbs:You gotta go to one of the boot camp classes sometime. What a great time especially getting to meet Mike and some of the other AG staff!

Oh man, black suburban in the same condition.. you've got your work cut out for you. Any ideas on products you will be using? For the odor removal check out the Chemical Guys SoFast Odor Eater & Bacteria Killer. I've had really good luck with it and they have a bunch of different scents too!

That's funny...."featured it on Facebook" I was like what is he talking about. I ended up finding it on the autogeek facebook page. lol I have been detailing for a long, long time....think I have about 180min of experience now and it should double in the next few days. 99.99% of the good results I've had so far came from the quality posts on this forum and learning from the experts that post here.

Gave her some stripper scent for a start, kids really liked it, have some of their odor eliminator on order. Will probably start with menzerna 2500 after a wash and clay. She's not looking for perfection by any means, just removal of the dull finish. Anything will be an improvment.
I figure it'll take at least 8 hours for the exterior, interior just smells like old shoes!
