That's not a typo in the title, you read it right. This isn't a review, it's a Rayview.

Today I noticed a new product on our shelves, TUF SHINE's Black Restore Kit (http://www.autogeek.net/tuf-shine-black-restore-kit.html). The packaging listed some pretty cool features:

Permanently protect and restore faded and chalky trim!

Revitalizes color on tires and trim to restore your vehicles appearance
Anti-static. Dust won't cling to the surface
Water based for easy cleanup

So I went out to the parking lot and found a Dodge Ram truck with trim that looked like it had been used and abused.

The included instructions state "Surface must be cool and dry. DO NOT APPLY IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT, OR IN COLD TEMPERATURES BELOW 5O DEGREES." So after snapping a few 'before' pics, I pulled the truck into some shade.

Before using TUF SHINE Black Restore, the surface must be cleaned and free of any silicone residue. I opted for a *paint safe* degreaser - Detailer's Cleanse-All Exterior Cleaner (http://www.autogeek.net/dp320.html).

To get everything surgically clean I followed DP Cleanse-All with an IPA wipe down.

*For reference, the Nitrile gloves that are included in the kit perfectly fit my hands. I wear XL Nitrile and American Fit Motorcycle Gloves.

**IMPORTANT**TUF SHINE BLACK RESTORE contains special colorants which are NOT in suspension. SHAKE the container well and often during use to prevent settling of colorant.

After shaking the bottle well, I applied some product to the included applicator sponge. The product is very thin, so you don't have to squeeze the bottle. The twist cap style bottle makes applying working product a breeze.

Color me impressed!! :dblthumb2:

The Black Restore is water based, so they recommend to rinse the sponge afterwards for future use.

Yes. I didn't mask anything off and got plenty on the paint. I sort of panicked the first time I noticed because it looked like dried black paint on the Dodge Rams' red paint.

Wiping the dry Black Restore did nothing with a microfiber towel...so I really started to worry lol. I sprayed some IPA on the corner of a MF towel and the Black Restore easily came off the paint.

Oh i see, because im a huge UTTG fan, i use it on all of my trim, but it is not strong enough for the faded black trims... and every time i have a trouble removing the ones i get on the paint, it just keep smearing.

This looks promising. I'm wondering the durability since its water based.

Thanks, good review.
Are you going to try on tires? Cleaning with Tuf Shine Cleaner, apply TShine Black restore, and then apply TShine Clearcoat??
Interesting how adding the middle step might help/hurt the overall performance and look

How is this holding up?

Will IPA remove it after it has cured on plastic parts?

nice review
really interested to see the durability, as it states it will restore it for life, quite a big claim imo, looking forward to some updates

Where'd you see the "for life" part? I was looking at the product page and Ray's Rayview and didn't see that claim.

....

Actually I just went to the Tuf Shine website and it says right on the product's page that it will "permanently revitalize older, weathered looking surfaces."

Great Review.

Looking forward to your reported update.

I use the TufShine Tire appearance kit for mine and the fiance's car and have been extremely impressed with it.

This looks to be a promising kit for restoring trim if its anything like its tire kit.
