I'm a on-call firefighter, so i often have a need to jump in my car and go on very short notice. I used to park in an attached garage, but now I am forced to park outside in the elements. I have a remote start installed on my truck. This helps some but I still need to leave before the vehicle is warmed up completely. I am looking for a way to remove frost & ice quickly.

I see that 1Z Einszett makes a de-icer spray. Has anyone used it and can recommend it? Any other options that people can recommend?

Thanks!

Most of the spray de-icers contain the same chemicals/ingredients as those jugs
of (usually) blue windshield washer reservoir fluid---except for the spray-can's propellant(s).

-Get yourself something like an empty "Windex-type-container and fill it up
with the above mentioned "blue-stuff".

-Prestone (for example) sells a gallon version of its De-icer.
Put that in the "Windex-type-container", instead.

-An: IPA/couple-drops-of-Dawn solution transferred to a
"Windex-type-container" works just as well, IMO.

Remote start your vehicle w/defroster setting on.
When ready to go...Spray your solution on the auto-glass surfaces.
Jump in your vehicle...Hit the wipers...take-off.

Yep. Fill up a spray bottle of Windshield washer fluid and spray your frozen windows and you will be amazed at how fast they will defrost. For even more effectiveness keep the bottle inside your home next to the door or your keys as much as possible and when you leave in the morning grab it from the house and take it outside. Dosent get any better than that.

Thanks Guys. Great ideas.

Makes me miss my attached garage, but at least I have some options now!

To waste a little less time you can buy a garden sprayer and have it primed and pumped, ready to go. That way you don't have to keep pressing the trigger on a normal sprayer.

besides the sprayers and de-icing agent, how about never letting the ice form on the glass to begin with... I have two old rubber floor mats i lay across my windshield... In 3 seconds the mats can be pulled away and off i go.

I'm liking the idea of the garden sprayer. Great idea.

Another good one for the mats as well.

And I never knew a washer fluid heater even existed until now!

Lots to learn from these forums.....Thanks Again.

If you really want to get going fast you can put newspaper over your windshield the night before. In the morning, you just peel it off.

I use the spray de-icers. They are very fast. I try to just spray a circular area near the top, let it drip down and then use an ice scraper to move it around and get the rest of the ice if possible, without soaking the whole windshield. I don't like using chemicals for this because they damage paint.

I bring a towel with me to wipe it off the paint quickly. Most de-icers including the windshield wash fluid for winter, contain methyl alcohol and it can damage paint if left on, which happens in the winter because it does not evaporate immediately. But for fastest, I use newspaper.
