How many times can you safely polish a car without damaging the clearcoat, ballpark figure, nothing exact.

There are many variables in that question. All clear coat is not the same thickness and technique while polishing can vary. Once you remove all the swirls, you need to practice proper washing technique so swirls are not put back into the paint.

I always wash with a two bucket system, and use a cr spotless machine, so nothing really touches the car. It just has never been done before and was just curious as to how often it can be done. 1997 Honda Prelude in mint condition just afraid of polishing , but want it to look like a deep color.

The only answer to your question is to measure the paint with a paint thickness gauge. That will measure the thickness of paint on the panel and is useful at allowing you to gauge clear coat thickness. To many variables to answer otherwise. It is actually possible to go completely through clear coat in one polishing session in one area if the polisher is held still under pressure with an aggressive pad and polish. That's an unlikely scenario, but it is possible.

I have fooled with all kinds of compounds and polishes on this one car for the last 7 years and it's now getting to the danger point. Started out with about 120 microns and now down to high 70's to low 80's.
