View Full Version : How Many Times Can You Correct the Paint?

Hey Folks,I have gathered from reading articles here that the factory paint on most cars is pretty thing. How many times, in general, can you correct the paint (using compound to abrade clear coat to remove swirls) before you need to consider a new paint job?

There are many factors. But once you correct the paint your goal is to keep it swirl free so there is no need to compound the paint again

Depends on amount of cut and pad. Wool rotary pads can cut through layers of paint and orange peel while swirl x by meguiars have very little cutting ability. Try combining ultimate compound and a red microfiber by meguiars. You will get a good amount of cut

Thanks for the link. Very informative article. I am looking to "revive" the paint on my F150. It is about 2 years old. The paint is in fair condition. I park it outside and drive it daily, so it won't be "perfect." But that doesn't mean it can't look good.

Use a paint gauge to see how much clear you have left to see if it is safe to polish further.
