We raffled off a full detail in order to generate some funds for the charity work we are doing (The Volkswagen Club of South Africa - View topic - KZN Charity Initiative - Malvern Children's Home Updates (http://www.vwclub.co.za/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=147816)) which was won by 'Mortar' on the VW Club forum. So I spent this weekend detailing his ride.

I must state upfront that the weather was an absolute shocker and due to the rain I was really limited in terms of the pics I was able to snap. Anyway, enough rambling... onto the detail.

Wheels :fear:
Products used:
-CM30 cyclonic cleaner
-Turtle Wax - Platinum Series Performance Wheel Cleaner
-Autofiness Oblitarate
-Carpro Iron-X
-Meguiars Cleaner Wax
-Turtle Wax - Platinum Series Revitalising Tyre Dressing

So first order of business was getting the car up on jack stands and getting the wheels off to give them a thorough cleaning.

My neighbor was having this massive party at his house, with cars lined up both sides of our road.... well, let's just say that I got more than a strange look or 2 when the guests walked past my driveway and saw me washing in the rain

Decontamination
Products used:
-Autofiness Oblitarate
-Carpro Iron-X
-Crazy Detailer Smooth Clay Kit

I was now ready to de-contaminate the paint, but obviously couldn't do that in the rain, so quickly put the wheels back on (in the rain it is not quite as much fun as you would think ) and pulled the car into the garage.

Time to get rid of the tar deposits
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Gerald%20White%209N%20Classic/IMG_0219.jpg
Then sprayed on iron-x (anyone who has used this will know that spraying it indoors is not pleasant, at all - rain should be :banned: )
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Gerald%20White%209N%20Classic/IMG_0223.jpg
As soon as it comes into contact with ferrous particles it turns purple, so all the purple you see is effectively iron (read rust) particles which were bonded to the paint being dissolved and 'bleeding' out the paint
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Gerald%20White%209N%20Classic/IMG_0227.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/polo_playa/Gerald%20White%209N%20Classic/IMG_0225.jpg
It was then back out into the rain to rinse the vehicle thoroughly. Then bought her back into the garage now that most of the crud was off the paint so that I was able to clay her to remove the remaining bonded contaminants.

At this stage it was getting dark, I was cold, drenched and tired and needed some inspiration to forge ahead... luckily my polo was standing right there and I managed to snap this pic of the beading (from a coat of collinite applied in June  ) - Ah yes, the ends justify the means

So after a quick meal and a set of dry clothes I was finally able to inspect what lay ahead for the rest of the evening.

Paint Correction
Products used:
-Menzerna PF2500 / Orange LC pads
-Chemical Guys Black Light Hybrid Radiant Finish / Green LC pads
-Collinite #845
-Chemical Guys Hybrid v7 Optical Sealant

The car was taped up and paint correction continued for the remainder of Saturday evening and commenced again 07:00 Sunday morning. Once I had finished that the windows were cleaned using Autoglym Fastglass and the interior was vacuumed and interior and exterior trim treated with Smart Dressing.

Some afters I managed to capture (it was raining when 'Mortar' collected his car so I apologize again for the lack of pics - as Murphy would have it, it is a nice sunny day today and maybe he will be so kind as to post 1 or 2 pics taken in the sunlight. It was really difficult for me to capture just how white this car came out

Thanks for all the comments guys

Door jambs were hosed off during the initial wash. I then sprayed liberally with APC, let is dwell a little while and then agitated with various brushed and rinsed clean.... that simple!
