Initial Impressions: Wolfgang Cockpit Trim Sealant

Introduction:

I was another of the lucky members to receive some of the new Wolfgang products to try/review. I had not intentionally tried to be the "final word" with my review but weather got in the way.

I don't "dress" a lot of interiors. I prefer the factory matte look so generally use CG Innerclean or Megs Quick Interior Detailer to clean and provide UV protection. Both leave my preferred look. But, as Nick sent me the Wolfgang Cockpit Trim Sealant, I was going to try it. Having read Pat's review (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/56345-wolfgang-cockpit-trim-sealant-my-thoughts.html), I expected it to go on glossier than UIGP (nice product but too glossy for me - then again, even a satin finish is).

I warned (telepathically) my customer that there may be more gloss than I typically leave.

Thanks again to Corey for providing the format and to Nick & Autogeek for providing the samples.

Details:

1.- Packaging: Plastic Bottle with Finger Sprayer
2.- Directions: Clearly labelled
3.- Viscosity: About the same as water
4.- Color: Clear
5.- Scent:
6.- Price at time of review: 8oz = $ 29.99
7.- Manufacturer: Wolfgang
9.- Made in: USA

Other Products Used:

Red/yellow foam applicator
MF

Test Car:

2011 Flamenco Red Metallic Volvo C70 T5

Preparation:

Wiped down vinyl surfaces with Swiffer pad to lift dust. It was clean otherwise.

Application:

Sprayed on red/yellow foam applicator and worked in to the vinyl. Followed a few minutes later with MF wipe.

Observations:

For me, it went on very matte and stayed that way. The Volvo's texture on the vinyl is rather deep so maybe that accounts for the difference between Pat and my observations. With the positive result (to my eyes), I will try again on my own car and update if it performs differently.

Like Wolfgang Deep Gloss Liquid Seal, very little is needed so I expect the 8oz bottle to go quite far.

I didn't notice any darkening but the vinyl was in excellent shape. Definitely not oily or slick.

Does it meet its claims?

Protect all interior surfaces including leather, plastic, vinyl, rubber, wood and metal trim! Put it on dash, center console, and door cards (including leather - I think - insert).
Wolfgang CockPit Trim Sealant even protects wood trim! No wood on this car.

Comparisons:

As mentioned, it appears to be more matte than UIGP. Otherwise, similar application.

Pros:
1.- Beautiful matte finish
2.- Easy to apply

????:
1. Durability.

Cons:
1.- None that I saw.

Final Observations and Summary:

I liked Wolfgang Cockpit Trim Sealant. Easy & quick application and I liked the finish. I saw no claim about longevity but, if at all like the other Wolfgang products I've used, would expect a fair amount. I will be trying on my own cars.

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

Yet another great write up.

Did you do any side by sides pictures (untreated vs treated)?

It is interesting that the Volvo has the white section on door (all the areas likely to get dirty) and white seats. Did you find these nasty?

Thanks Al.

I'm planning on adding that this weekend. As mentioned, I didn't see any change but the Volvo did have a deep texture. I wasn't able to do as thorough a job on the review as I would have liked - it has been crazy busy at work and this was 1 of 4 cars that weekend (the only interior). Have another 4 this weekend so can hopefully get some better pics.

The leather here has stayed remarkably clean over the 18 months. Other than an area on the driver's seat was "cut" by the owner's belt, it has stayed nearly perfect. Contrast with his wife's Oddessey, within 1 week, the light gray leather was already taking on dark jean transfers.

Nice review Mike and looks like another great product they've added to the Wolfgang lineup...:props:

I like the car too but as Al said, those white panels are in an interesting spot....

Great review Mike. I am surprised you found it to be more matte than Ultima. Maybe it was just the plastics on the car that I was using it on. I will have to try it on another car to compare.

Thanks Pat.

I was surprised, too. Troy's review showed a fair amount of gloss, too, so I am the outlier.I am hoping to try again on a more familiar car tomorrow.

I actually noticed this too. On some plastics it gave a more matte finish and some of the more "thirsty" plastics gained a more glossy finish. Sometimes I did kind of have difficulty knowing whether I was still putting product on or just rubbing a dry applicator on. I basically used about 2-3 squirts per door and 3 squirts on the dashboard. Is this too much?

I used Wolfgang Cockpit Trim Sealant on my 10-year old Hyundai Tiburon this last weekend. It has more normal texture vinyl. I found that a single wipe does indeed go on glossy but, as I worked it in a bit, it became more matte and finished with a very light satin sheen. Really liked the tactile finish - completely dry.

So I am thinking you can probably, to some degree, control the gloss level by your application method.
