I was just thinking about something this evening. (That's a scary thought all by itself) I am realitively new to this forum but have been a member of other forums for a few years now. I have been detailing cars semi-professionally for many many years and no I am not the youngest member here by any means. I remember when I joined my first forum that all these acronmys were flying around. I printed out my "cheat sheets" to get familiar with them. Quite honestly, I was overwhelmed with all of that as a newby. Anyway, to my point. I just think it would be very helpful to the new members and some of the inexperienced members to include things like the type of pad and speed setting on the buffer and whether rotary or DA. Being experienced detailers, some of us tend to give out some information in our posts but maybe not all necessary info forgetting about our newer and inexperienced members. Any info that could help them be successful. It would take only a minute more to post this info.

What are your thoughts?

Sorry to ramble on. Just "food for thought".

i try to be very detailed in my write-ups but i must admit even i am guilty of using an abbreviation or two...i know other sites have secret decoder ring threads...but to be honest with you the reason i was drawn to autogeek initially is that most of the abbreviations make sense and i think are kept to a minimum....a post on another forum was like i used ip on my da with lc orange finished with fpII on lc white and topped with ls...###?!?!?!?

I agree with both of you guys, I'm fairly new to this and it is over welming when to many abriviations are placed. I some times feel bad asking "what do you mean by ?????". You almost feel out of place.

Good point and I'll keep that in mind when I post my details.

It is very hard to understand a lot of the posts using acronmys when you first join the forum. I know I did not know what people were talking about on half of them until I came accross a thread containing a list of aconmys and abbreviations. There is a nice thread with a list somewhere. I'm sure if you do a search you can find it if it helps.

I feel/ felt the exact same way when I first joined here.

It took a bit to become familiar with all of the acronyms, but once I did I found it's just easier to use them rather than typing out the actual product. I much prefer just typing UPP rather than Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection.

In time you should get familiar with them all and likely find yourself using them yourself.

I guess it is because people, me included, are too lazy to type out the names. I was thinking about a similar issue recently. I work on an IT project for a Federal Government agency and they are fraught with acronyms. The same was true when I worked for a big 4 firm. So why is there this laziness? At home when you want a glass of water do you say "Would you bring me a GOW?"

Acronyms are what make the world go round. I work for a company that would make even the military go crazy because of all the acronyms. It's just part of the hobby. You get used to it after awhile. There is usually a rosetta stone on the forums that tell you what the common abreviations stand for. It's not really about being lazy, it is about saving time when typing out frequently refered to products.

We use acronyms and abreviations all the time. Do you really call it a television, or do you call it a TV? Do you watch 'the game' or do you watch 'game 3 of the 2007 nba playoffs'? Do you work on your 'd' or do you work on 'defense'? We all get used to industry and hobby related jargon after awhile. :)

Joe P. was kind enough - and I think Sparkie too - to post up the list of acronyms they have goung here back when I joined. I bet if they see this, or if you pm one of them, they will gladly send it to you. Both are fantastic people - very nice guys!!!
