Today I finally had the time to finish polishing and waxing my Firebird. The paint is original and NOT in very good shape but I just cant bring myself to get it repainted.
Any way these are the products used on the car.
1. Meguiars Clay Bar
2. Meguiars Areosol QD
3. Griots HD DA polisher (First time using a DA)
4. Meguiars M105 and LC 6.5" CCS Yellow Pad
5. Meguiars M205 and LC 6.5" CCS Green Pad
6. Collinite 845 Wax

I think it turned out pretty nice considering it has 125k miles on it and is 23 years old.
Let me know what you think!

PS: I did not detail the rest of the car so excuse anything that is not so clean. It had been washed a week ago with some CG Citrus W&G and has been sitting in the garage waiting for its turn at some attention.

Theres lotsa little things. Clear is really starting to give way on the hood and there were alot of little things when I bought it that I didnt repair right (with a "color matched" can of spray paint) but its ok over all.

I had a GM of that vintage and the clear was going on the mirrors and the (painted) spoiler.

Yeah my spoiler was A MESS when I bought the car so I replaced it with the black one non-painted. Dont know if I will EVER have that painted even if I get the rest of the car done.

Great post. Brings back memories. Bought a red '87 new after high school, and I had many great times with that car--until it was stolen in 1992. Until this summer when I finally bought a convertible (Audi A5), that car and its t-tops was my only experience with open air driving. Being the 80's on Long Island, it was a huge convenience to be able to leave the passenger side on so as not to mess up my girlfriend's huge hair. Thanks for triggering the good memories! (OK, except for the hair.)

LOL!! I have too much OCD and would NEVER leave just one T-top in! Same thing rolling UP the windows while tops are out... NO WAY.

Youre welcome for the memories. Ha Ha Ha Ha

As a teenager with limo tint on my windows, I LOVED having the windows up with the tops out. There something to the novelty of having nothing above my head, but still having the privacy of folks not being able to see inside the car. If NY didn't have such an unreasonable tint law, I'd do the same thing now that I have a convertible. Oh well.

Is that the original spoiler? It's been a long time, but I thought the car came with a body color spoiler.

It came with a body colored one, the paint was chipping off everywhere when I got it, I bought one from an 86 TA that wasnt painted and installed that! The car used to have alot more black "accents" on it that werent factory but I painted them back to blue. I sorta like the ease of care that the unpainted spoiler brings me. Along with seeing 2 other Maui Blue ones around town with blue spoilers makes me wanna keep it black so there is some difference. The body color spoiler just looks funny to me now after having a black one all this time. :dunno:

Brings back memories .. I had a black one with grey bottom stripes. Always loved the turbine 16 inch wheels, but hated cleaning them. Did you replace the rear deck spoiler (doesnt look body colored).

I wasn't a Firebird guy, I was a Iroc Z guy. But this post sure does bring back some memories. Always loved the rumble of the 350 with the Flowmaster muffler and shorty headers.
GM had alot of problems with clearcoats from 88-92. They were trying to become VOC compliant IIRC and had bonding and peeling issues with the paints.

When I bought this car (2004) I was looking for an IROC with these 3 things...350 engine, T-tops, and it had to be under $2000. I had searched for over a year then opened my search up to Formulas (not Trans -am cause I didnt like all the extras) and found this car in MI.
