Anyone else into this like I am?

Despite my young age (21 going on 22 in a couple weeks) and a fairly fast car, I've kept my record clean and I believe this is the reason why.

Autocross is basically ran in a large parking lot with cones set-up in a course formation. Different cars have different classes assigned to them depending on modifications done to the car...etc. In the end, each class has a multiplier which puts each driver on the same competitive nature.

Couple videos and shots to show you what I do on a weekend basis:

Right on. Glad to see you are actually using that car. Any mods on it?

Awesome.:xyxthumbs:

I've been to quite a few, just to watch, but have always wanted to actually get into this. Would need to pickup another car though, kind of hard to do in a truck.

Exactly. I'd be doing the car shame if I didn't beat on it.

As of now, this is what is done with it:

235/265 Hankook RS3s
H&R E46 M3 30mm Front Sway Bar
Hawk HP+ Pads
5mm Spacers
Vorshlag Wheel Stud Conversion
Turner Motorsports Camber Shim Kit
Ziza Interior LED Kit
ZHP Knob
Stubby Antenna
Matte Black Grills
30% Ceramic Tint

As for next year, I'm aiming to purchase and install some TC Kline DA Coilovers w/Camber Plates..and go from there with my mod journey.

Ultimate goal, turn it into a track rat a couple years down the road.

You should grab some rides while you're there. The environment is always inviting.

As for a car, Miatas are always competitive along with some other cars.

I track my 996 about every other month. Roebling Road, Palm Beach, Homestead, Road Atlanta and others. It's an addiction for sure. I am planning on gutting the 996 and prepping it for either SCCA or Porsche Club Racing.

One thing I have never done is an Autocross. I will be doing my first tomorrow at Daytona International Speedway.

I hope to get to some more tracks as they year progresses (I really want to do VIR).

How'd the autocross go, something different yes?

It's a completely different feeling. Track it's 1 steering input with modulation of the gas, autocross it's turn and mash on the gas pedal while adjusting the steering to maintain grip...lol

PS - I'm fully jealous of the 996 you own. I love them.

I used to sell quite a few tires to guys that race. A customer of mine built this place. I'm going to get out there soon. Nice tracks.

Used to autocross when I had my 05 STi. Miss it, the car and autocross. Was hoping to get to start tracking the STi here in VA before it was totalled. Maybe next season I can get the FZ1 onto a track.:-)

I highly recommend autocrossing to anyone looking to improve their performance driving skills. I ran fairly regular thru the 70's and early 80's with cars such as a '67 Firebird, '73 Old 442, '74 Camaro, '77 and '81 Corvettes. All of them were stock or near-stock with just a few suspension tweaks, as they were my DD's. The lessons in car control that you learn between the cones stay with you for a lifetime, and at some point in time will keep you out of the ditch in an unexpected emergency situation.

I didn't get a chance to do the Autocross this weekend. I got busy working with the local clubs that came in for some parade laps around Daytona. We had over 80 Porsche's show up for charity runs around the track...on the flat only. Driving on the 31 degree banking is not for the faint of heart. The road course at Daytona is very difficult to master. That track eats cars. A friend crashed his brand new, one off custom Porsche GT RS. $287 grand down the crapper!

You will love VIR. Fantastically fun track. Your car will do well there. I might head up there in the spring for a run weekend.

That's a shame you weren't able to run.

We had a autocross event here today. Cold and wet. We had a BRZ lose control and slam into a concrete pillar...smashed the rear end :(. New driver, started to oversteer and tried to play hero and save it.

Anyways, I Co-Drove a Honda S2000 today, ended up #3 overall out of a field of 71. Pretty happy.

I'm looking to get a 944 and do some track days and autocross. Good winter project building it.

Sounds like Spec 944 is calling your name sooner or later.

Had a fun event today. It rained, we decided to take advantage and have fun.
