So I am getting ready to do my first legit detail on my car this weekend and I thought I had it pretty much planned out in my head.

wash..clay..rinse & dry with MF...mxt360..nattys blue

But then I started reading about using isopropyl alcohol (IA). Since all the previous waxings have been 1 step processes with low grade wax would it be beneficial for me to use IA or will the clay pretty mcuh strip off all the old wax?

Thanks

Claying, should strip the old stuff.

you should be fine with the clay bar, maybe conider some DAWN with the soap...

claybar and polishing will sluff off all the old wax...its mostly Zaino-heads that started the whole ipa/dawn wash trend...never found it necessary....its only real use it to just give a final wipedown after polishing if you are going to apply a sealant (and i have never really found in necessary - mostly used if you are a perfectionist)....xmt360 is a product that makes this step counter-productive...an ipa wipe down after polishing with xmt360 would strip the sealant it leaves behind...

i dont ever use an IA.water mix and have never had any ill effect. Its a step some people choose to do but by no means is it needed

I use it to test areas of polishing to make sure the fillers are not hiding the swirls versus removing. Its up to you ....
