Guys, what do you think about 7.5" pads ? Are they too big to the point that makes it difficult to work with them ?

Yes. Personally 7 inch is my absolute limit when using a pad of this size.

7.5" on a rotary if you are experienced should be no problem. If inexperienced more damage

Pretty sure it will be a pain if working with a Porter Cable.

I use the 5.5 hydrotech pads on my D/A and my 849x

Well, I'm asking because I was told 7.5" was the best along with dynabrade dual action head..... and I was wondering if it would be too much for a novice like....
But i'll go with 6" and 6.5" pads as talking to other guys, they told me it works great too although no as much balanced as dynabrade works with 7.5" to 8" pads.... although, and it's a good selling point to me, even with the 6" it's much more smooth than a DA.

I lift my Grandson all of the time... I didn't say that!

I just bought a 849x in a pawn shop... still in the box with paperwork and everything for a whoppin' $100, They have one more just like it and I was thinking about buying it too. Anyway, from what I am reading, smaller than 7" backing plates are all right to use, right?

My post was not directed to you, but to the op. Using a 849X with a Dynabrade can get pretty heavy. Using a 5.5" or 6" BP will work just fine with a 849X.
