I went to the beach last weekend and ended up with a light coating of sand on my engine and surrounding areas. I was wondering how safe it is to spray everything down with a jet of water to prevent any corrosion.
Thanks in advance.

Cover up the essenentals and knock off the light sand debris with a spray bottle of water and go in by hand and finish cleaning it up. You dont want use high pressure so not to damage any components. Mike has a very nice write up on this topic.

This post may be more detailed than you're after, but it goes into detail of what to cover up if you're doing an engine detail, which should give you an idea of what you should be careful around.
