I've done this many times and it's pretty easy. You can use a hair dryer to warm up the decal and then use fishing line to get under it. Hold the fishing line as if you were flossing your teeth and use a light seesaw motion to remove the decal. Once the decal is off you can use goo gone to remove any glue residue. Clean the area then wax.

How old is the bike? If it's new it should be a piece of cake to get the decal off. If it's older it may be tougher and you run the risk of having a decal shadow on the paint from sun exposure.

it's a brand new bike.

i tried to peel it off.. but only the clear layer came off.

i'll try your suggestion and let you know how it works.

thanks!! :)

Congratulations on your new bike. What kind of bike?
Are you sure the decal is not clearcoated?
You can also use dental floss.

Hair dryer, heat it up and peel off. Then use googone to take the glue off your tank.

Just like Al and Sprakie said, works great and very easy. I've removed many fender and deck emblems this way.

Good info on this topic, never thought of using a hair drying though. I'll remember this. Learned something new.

i don't think it was clear coated.. the clear part that came off seemed like part of the sticker itself. the image is still on the tank.. and sticky. i'm gonna try to get it off tonight.

my new bike is a 2007 triumph bonneville black!! :) i love it!!

the sticker had images of a helmet and a gas pump with exclamation points.

i dunno, maybe don't put your helmet on the tank. heh

it was probably warning me not to do something I'll later end up doing.

i didn't want to apply sealant until i got it off.

i plan on using souveran paste wax on top of klasse high gloss sealant.
